In loving memory of Tommy Joe Turner, “Tom” April 28th, 1948 – April 11th, 2023

Although the family misses him dearly, we are thankful and take great comfort in knowing that Tom is now with his two sons Bradley Scott Turner and Ryan Edward Turner, his mother and father Betty and Willie Turner, his brother Randy Turner, beloved Maternal Grandmother Elizabeth Gerald “Big Mama,” his Paternal Grandmother Ethel Garmon and many more loving family members and friends in Heaven.

Tom was a member of The Munfordville Baptist Church for many years. He was honorably discharged after serving his country in the US ARMY – Armored Tank Division Commander. He was an Officer and Member of the Munfordville Volunteer Fire Department for many years while living in Munfordville. Tom served on the Board of South-Central Telephone Coop., and was a member of the Green River Masonic Lodge.

He later moved to Lexington with his family and retired from the Toyota Georgetown Kentucky plant. After retiring, he and his wife Carol took residence in The Villages, Florida where they have lived for the past several years.

Tom was a Business and Civic Leader in Munfordville for many years. He stepped in as Co-Owner and Manager of Gerald Furniture Company along with his mother Betty Turner after the death of his father Willie “Bill” Turner. Tom was happy to serve the community and to have worked with some dear family and friends, including but certainly not limited to; his mother Betty, brother Randy, grandfather Harley Gerald, family friend Charles Ross, an honored veteran of the Korean War, family friend John Coats, former Fire Chief and Chief of Police, Carl Thacker, “Uncle” Ed Kutzleb, and many other wonderful people during his time at Gerald Furniture. In addition to his interest in the furniture store, Tom and his wife Carol owned Carol’s Beauty Salon, The Shoe Box, and Ryans women’s apparel store.

Tom is survived by his wife Carol Turner, The Villages, FL, granddaughter Emilee, grandson Brant, two brothers, Steve and Bill Turner, several nieces, and nephews, among other family members.

Thank you to all who have known and have called Tommy Joe Turner friend. He never forgot you or the town he grew up in. He often reminisced and spoke of Munfordville, his friends and townsfolk with a glad heart and a great sense of humor which never left him. He will be missed but never forgotten.

 

Family and friends will be welcome to join in the celebration of Tom’s life at Sego Funeral Home in Munfordville Kentucky this Saturday, July 29th at 1:00PM CST. After which Tom will be laid to rest in the Turner family plot located at the Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. It was Tom’s wish that donations be made to The Green River Masonic Lodge #88 Munfordville, KY in lieu of flowers.
