Troy Leon Gosser, 84, passed away on May 30, 2023, in Glasgow, KY. He was born in Dorena, KY, on July 25, 1938, to William McKinley Gosser and Lula Wilson Gosser. Troy had a passion for airplanes since he was a little boy. He joined the Air Patrol at an early age, which allowed him to learn how to fly. He started flying when he was thirteen years old and continued to fly throughout his life. He loved his country and entered the Navy with his mother’s permission at the age of 17. Later he joined the Air Force, and the Army where he flew Huey helicopters.
Troy attended Mays High School and graduated from Rushville Consolidated High School. Later earned an Associate of Science degree from Vincennes University. He retired from Dana Corporation. His love for aviation led him to become a flight instructor for multiple types of aircraft and helicopters. Troy also operated an aerial photography business for homes, farms, and businesses. He and his wife , Lavada, moved to Florida, where he worked at Disney World. Upon full retirement they moved to Glasgow KY to be near family.
Troy enjoyed many things in life; grilling out was always an enjoyable family activity. He had an enormous, sweet tooth for jellies, pastries, and ice cream. Troy’s love for animals was clear by him supporting orphaned animals and having family pets. He enjoyed skeet shooting, bird hunting and fishing. He liked reading and made sure books were available for his children to learn from. His reading was focused on US history and even more so towards military history. He was passionate about current events and held a strong conservative point of view. The love for his country even led him to starting a business to sell flags and flagpoles so people could show their patriotic respect. Troy would listen to country and Christian music. In his retirement, he would ride his mower around in the yard and bring him great joy. He would laugh and tell his neighbors he was flying his helicopters again while he mowed. He truly loved his family. Many of his decisions of employment were based on providing for them. His major concern was to make sure the love of his life, Lavada, and wife of 63 years in September, was taken care of.
Troy is survived by his loving wife, Lavada Russell Gosser of Glasgow KY; daughters, Cynthia Rivers (Larry) of Noblesville IN, Tina Prince of Salma IN, Mandy May of Noblesville IN; son, Adam Gosser (Annemarie) of Cortland NY; a brother, Reno Gosser of Rushville IN, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William McKinley Gosser; mother, Lula Wilson Gosser; brothers, William Gosser, Clinton Gosser, Arlo Gosser; sister, Lula Simich; son, Louis Gosser; granddaughters, Katie Ann Rivers, Krista Anne Gosser; and grandson, Brock Prince.
Troy worshiped at Christian Assembly of God in Rushville, IN, and Calvary Baptist Church in Glasgow, KY. The memorial graveside service will be held at Union No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church in Glasgow, KY, 42141 on Tuesday, June 6 at 11 am. Following the service, a luncheon will be provided by Calvary Baptist Church at 307 Columbia Ave, Glasgow, KY 42141. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the DAV, Glasgow Chapter 20.
