GLASGOW – On the weekend of Saturday, May 27, Glasgow High School joined 303 of the top high school quiz bowl teams at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for the 2023 High School National Championship Tournament to determine who was the best.

Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for teams of four students.  It is the national version of the game that is often locally called Quick Recall.  Quiz bowl teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports, and popular culture.  The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas.  Participation in quiz bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.

The team was captained by William Parocai, who was joined by Rudra Chaudhary, Danica Ingram, Diya Nair, Kasan Peters, and Mary Kate Vance.  The team was coached by Todd Garrison, who was assisted by Jason Dooley.

Glasgow was one of nine Kentucky teams competing at the national championship and finished the preliminary rounds with a 5-5 record.

Glasgow suffered a heartbreakingly narrow loss to St. Joseph Central (St. Joseph, MO) from Missouri, 235-210 during round 18 ending their shot at the playoffs.

William Parocai was honored as an All-Star for correctly answering 60 tossup questions — 10 of them for “power,” that is, so early as to earn extra points — in the preliminary rounds.

Glasgow High School finished in 124th place.

The 2023 High School National Championship Tournament’s field featured 304 teams from 40 states.
