Ravenel Elaine (Emberton) Gerughty, 86, of Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Thursday, March 23rd, at her home.

Ravenel was born in Tompkinsville, KY on March 16, 1937, a daughter of the late Glade (Carter)   and Reggie Emberton.

On June 19, 1955, she married Robert James “Bob” Gerughty. Bob preceded her in death on March 6, 1966.

Ravenel loved and was loved by her family. She enjoyed gardening and cheering for the Louisville Cardinal Basketball team. She often joked about Michael being her favorite son-in-law. About a year before her son, Jim, passed away, she got her cat Chloe, which helped her in more ways than anyone could imagine. She was also a member of Rock Bridge Baptist Church.

Ravenel is survived by a daughter, and son-in-law, Kim and Michael Harper, of Tompkinsville, KY;  four sons and daughters-in-law,  Jeff and Beth Gerughty, of Glasgow, KY;  Jack and Mary Ann Gerughty, of Louisville, KY;  John and Teresa Gerughty, of Tompkinsville, KY and Joe and Janie Gerughty, of Edmonton, KY; nine grandchildren, Heather Estes (Kenny), Ashley Groce (Brandon), Blake Gerughty (Ashley), Kyle Gerughty (Stepanie), Bobby Gerughty, Adam Gerughty (Mary Catherine), Andrew Gerughty (Kelsey), Austin Gerughty (Oschin) and Alaine Gerughty; 12 great grandchildren, Chastan, Ridge, Indy, Penelope, Savannah, Sawyer, Brighton, Grant, Emma, Paisley, Mason and Preston. Ravenel is also survived by two sisters, Rose Mary Byrd (Collie), of Eighty Eight, KY and Roberta  England, of Tompkinsville, three brothers, Eugene (Mary Ruth) Emberton, of Tompkinsville, KY;  Robert (Peggy) Emberton, of Cave City, KY;  and Billy (Shirley) Emberton, of Tompkinsville, KY;  a sister-in-law, Beatrice Emberton, of Tompkinsville, KY. Other than her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a son, James Robert “Slim” Gerughty, a granddaughter, Kelli Gerughty, sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and JR Thompson, brother, Eagle Emberton, and brother-in-law, Marvin England.

Funeral services will be held at Yokley Trible Funeral Home on Saturday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

Visitation is Friday, March 24, 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, March 25, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ravenel’s memory may be made to Rock Bridge Baptist Church, Monroe County Backpack Program or to American Cancer Society.
