Butch Carroll, age 74, of Brownsville, departed this life Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Hospice House of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green. The Edmonson County native was born on October 31, 1947 to the late Layman and Maxine Prunty Carroll.

Some may not know Larry, but most knew Butch and his contagious personality. He was full of life, laughter, and was loyal to his family, friends and the place he cherished and called home, Edmonson County.

Butch was saved as a young boy in 1957 during a revival at Kyrock United Baptist Church, and remained a member until his passing.  He was a 1965 graduate of Edmonson County High School and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University. He was drafted into the United States Army shortly after his high school graduation.  Butch was stationed at Quarry Heights in the Panama Canal Zone, and served during the Vietnam War.  After two years of service, he earned the rank of SPC 5, which was rare for a young soldier.

Butch retired from Holley Carburetor in 1993, after working there for over thirty years.  He started on the assembly lines and with a lot of grit, hard work and determination, he progressed to the manager of the Quality Department.  Since he wasn’t one to sit idle, Butch ran and was elected for the office of Edmonson County Clerk, and fervently served his county for over sixteen years.

He leaves to honor his memory– his children, Amy Thornhill and her husband Bobby and Nathan Carroll; his grandchildren, Michelle Merritt (Patrick) and Mason Thornhill all of Brownsville; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Stella Merritt, along with two nieces and a nephew. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Ricky Carroll.
