The annual fund raising and singing sponsored by the Grace Union Baptist Church in Edmonton will be this Saturday, September 11.  Fish Fry will begin at 1pm with singing a 5pm that includes singers, Schofields and The Spirituals.  Proceeds will go toward purchasing clothing for needy children at Christmas. There will be a gospel singing this Saturday, September 11at 6PM in the Gamaliel Elementary School Gymnasium.  Singing will be by many local groups.  There is no admission charge.

Super Saturday Story Time will be this Saturday at 10:00 AM at Mary Wood Weldon Library. This story time event is for ages 6 months to 6 years and during this story time, we will read, move, sing, and have a fun interactive time! Caregivers are encouraged to interact with their child and be active participants in this story time.

Barren County Household Hazardous Waste Collection & Free Shredder Day will be this Saturday, September 11 from 9AM to 12PM at Beaver Trail Park.  Free shredding also for items such as Paper, Documents, Phone Books, Newspaper, Flyers, Brochures, File Folders, Rubber Bands, Paper Clips, and Staples. This service is for individual citizens only. A date will be announced later for businesses.

Barren River Rod & Gun Club will have a Fun, social gathering for women only this Sunday at 2PM.  Shooting education, practice, encouragement, improve skills, and friendship.  Safety is priority!  For a list of items you need to bring, contact Stacy Collins at kj4dbm@yahoo.com or call 270-404-0784 or check the Barren River Rod & Gun Club Facebook page.

Southern Barren Family Resource Center will be having their Advisory Council meeting on Monday September 13. The meeting will begin at 3:15 pm. The public is invited to attend. Please message Dana Salley @ 270-646-4784 if you would like to join via Zoom link.

The Eastern Elementary School Site Based Decision Making Council will meet in regular session on Tuesday, September 14 at 3:30 PM at the school. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, please call the school at 678-2722.

Mary Wood Weldon Library will have a Teen Trivia Night at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, September 14 for ages 13-18.  Put your knowledge to the test on everything from super heroes, anime, movies, and videogames, to food and more!  Register at the Circulation Desk or phone 270-651-2824.

Temple Hill SBDM will have its regular monthly meeting, Wednesday, September 15 at 4:00PM.  The public is welcome to attend.  Please contact the school should you have any questions or need a virtual link at 427-2611.

On Saturday, September 25, the Barren County Historical Society will host Mel Stewart Hankla one of Kentucky’s foremost historians, educators, researchers, craftsmen, and collectors. He is an authority on the Kentucky Long Rifle and a past president of the Contemporary Long Rifle Association and editor of American Tradition magazine. The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center, located at 200 W Water Street in Glasgow. He will share highlights of his work and his recent book. Hankla will also have books available for purchase and signing after the program. There is no charge to attend the program and the public is invited to attend.

American Red Cross Kentucky Region disaster volunteers are trained to respond to all types of disaster and “Heroes Needed” is a great opportunity for new volunteers with no disaster training to become Red Cross “Heroes” in just a few days. You will receive basic skills to become a disaster responder in Sheltering or Health Services and learn more about the Red Cross. Fall Festival 2021 will be Saturday September 18 at 4:00 PM at The Shepherd’s House Church located at 7464 Edmonton Road in Glasgow and will be held outdoors at the picnic area and playground located behind the church. Johnny Logan with JRL Creations & party services will be playing Gospel music with his outside equipment.  Also will have bounce house, sack races, swing sets, outside toys for the smaller ones to play with in the sand box, along with other outside games and activities for all ages. Free Hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones with Kool-Aid, & Tea to drink.  Door prizes will be given away during a drawing that day. Bring a lawn chair. Visitors must register for the drawing upon arrival to be eligible to win prizes.

Extreme Fitness is hosting the 11th Annual Run for Health on Saturday, September 18 from 8am to midnight.  Sign up today for the virtual 5 K Run or Walk. There will be $1500 in prizes. The money that is raised will benefit Community Medical Care help provide affordable medical care for working families and senior citizens. With your help, The Extreme Fitness Run for Health will raise much-needed funds to help Community Medical Care better serve our community. Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky, 23rd Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome will be at the Bowling Green Ballpark on September 18. Gates will open at 10:00 am and walk begins at 11:30 am. Whether you have Down Syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, take the first step and donate or register today as we unite for a common cause and raise funds. There will be a Caverna High School Decision Based Council Meeting on Monday, September 13 in the high school library at 3:30PM.

Metcalfe County Relay for Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 18 at the Metcalfe County High School gym. The gym will be open to the public at 6:00 pm with entertainment by the Hornet Nest Pickers. There will also be delicious concessions prepared by Heart and Soul Catering by Phyllis Dean Stone Thompson and family. Opening ceremony will begin at 7:00PM and we will have special speakers and a presentation of our survivors, walk some laps, have a luminary ceremony at 8:00, followed with music by Glorified. We will finish with a closing ceremony at 9:30.

Mammoth-on Sunday will be held on September 19 at the Lodge at Mammoth Cave with registration beginning at 7:30AM and the event beginning at 8:15M.  Challenge yourself or just have fun with friends and family as you cave, hike and bike one of the most unique triathlons in the world.  Walk the two mile, 580 step Historic Tour route inside Mammoth Cave, hike two miles on a beautiful, woodland trail or bike along the Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail to Park City. Your registration fee helps enable us to fund projects and programs that protect, preserve and enhance the natural and cultural resources and visitor experience at Mammoth Cave National Park. Barren County Middle School SBDM Council will meet on Tuesday, September 21 at 3:30PM at the school.  SBDM meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month.

Mary Wood Weldon Library will have Tater Tot Time on Tuesday, September 28 at 10AM.
During this story time for 3-year-olds to preschool ages, we encourage emerging language development through music, books, movement, and fun! Songs, stories, and activities will focus on early literacy skills and school readiness. Caregivers are encouraged to interact with their child and be active participants in this story time.

Mary Wood Weldon Library will have a Board Gaming at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, September 28 for ages 12 -18.  Get your game on at the library! Come to the teen board game get together which meets every fourth Tuesday of the month. Various board games will be provided, or bring along your favorite game. Mary Wood Weldon Library will have Wacky Wednesday on Wednesday, September 29 at 3:30PM.  Join us for a fun-filled, wacky time creating art and having fun with this program for preschool ages to 2nd grade. This program will take place on the last Wednesday of each month unless the library is closed for a holiday. Caregivers are required to stay with their child during this program.

The 39th Annual Metcalfe County Pumpkin Festival at the Metcalfe County Historic Court Yard will be held on Saturday, October 2 at 8AM.  Activities include a 5k run, pumpkin contests, car show, vendor booths, costume contest for up to 12 years of age, tours of the historic jail and the historic museum, live music, historic car parade and games and rides.

The Glasgow Transit System is reducing services due to Covid Quarantine Staffing Issues.  The hours will now be 6:45AM to 11:10AM and then 11:45AM to 2:30PM. Use bus #60 on time table on the current schedules.

Your local DAV Chapter 20 will provide you a free ride to Robley Rex VA hospital or any other VA clinic in the Louisville. These runs are made on Mondays only so be sure to schedule accordingly.  If you need a ride call 270-749-4907 to confirm your appointment and ride there.

T J Samson Stroke Ahead Support Group will meet each Tuesday at 4:30PM. This is for people who have had a stroke or suffered some other type of brain trauma.  For more information call Emily Grinstead at 659-5650.

Highland Hills Church has a food pantry every Wednesday from 4PM until 6PM and Saturday 9 to 11AM. Anyone that is in need of food may come. The church is located on Broadway in Glasgow.

Childbirth prep and newborn care classes are in the T J Samson Community Hospital, 4th floor classroom. Call Megan Coulter at 651- 4105 to register.

T J Health offers a bereavement support group that meets the third Monday of each month from 2 to2:30pm.  If you would like to attend please call Loretta Boone at 651-4430.

Glasgow-Barren County Family Resource and Youth Services sponsor a grandparent support group on the third Friday of each month from 11AM to 1PM. For more information call Tammy Lindsey at 651-1327.

The DAV will assist the Disable Veterans with their claims each Tuesday from 8AM to 12noon at the Lera B Mitchell Clubhouse.
