Staying up to date on the latest COVID requirement can be a daunting task, especially since changes can be made almost daily.

On Monday afternoon, the Glasgow School Board met and went over their reopening plan for this school year, and after the order handed down yesterday from the governor, that plan will have to change.

Tara Martin, Supervisor of Instruction with Glasgow Schools, says that next Tuesday will be the first day of school. WCLU asked Martin what the start of the school year will look like:

“We’re hoping for it to be as normal as possible,” she said

According to the governor’s order:

All individuals – all teachers, staff, students and visitors – must cover their nose and mouth with a face covering when indoors in all public and private preschool, Head Start, elementary, middle and high schools (preschool through grade twelve, as well as child care centers) in Kentucky, regardless of vaccination status.

Martin says they are ready to get back to school:

“We’re expecting 100% of our students to return to in-person learning,” she said,  “And we are excited about that.”

Dr. Chad Muhlenkamp is the Director of Pupil Personnel with Glasgow Schools and he says that he stays in contact with the health department on an ongoing basis, as well as other agencies and the board, and the reopening plan is an ongoing process:

“Currently where we are within the community and within our school district, with student populations and it gets evaluated daily with our conversations with the health department,” he said “We’ll continue to keep the Board of Education informed on what’s going on and they reserve the right to reconvene when needed or if changes need to be made with the plan. It’s an ongoing process as it has been over the last year and a half. New information develops daily. We make the best decisions with the information we have.”
