A Glasgow man has been arrested for attempting to set the Bluegrass Apartment complex on fire. The Glasgow Police Department and the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a call around 4:30 this morning to the apartments in reference to a male subject in possession of a knife in a possible domestic situation.

Upon arrival at the apartment, the door was locked and officers could hear the male subject, 22-year-old James Gonzales,  inside yelling and throwing objects against the door and the wall.

Officers kept telling Gonzales to come out with his hands up. The officers detected a burnt smell coming from the apartment, and smoke was seen coming out of the door. Once the smoke was seen, it was determined that a male juvenile was also in the apartment with Gonzales. Captain Lowery attempted to kick in the door, but was unsuccessful. The front windows of the apartment were broken out due to the fire inside. Gonzales finally released the juvenile out of the bedroom window.

The apartment complex was evacuated due to the fire. Gonzales eventually came out of the bedroom window. The Glasgow Fire Department was able to extinguish the small fire started by Gonzales.  EMS cleared Gonzales and he was arrested and charged with Arson in the first degree and Wanton Endangerment in the first degree. Gonzales was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center. Fire Department officials and the Police Department continue to process the fire scene.
