After a long and arduous process, the city of Glasgow finally has a new police chief. Guy Turcotte was announced for the position at a ceremony held at the Glasgow City Council Chambers on Friday night. Turcotte has over 20 years of policing experience, six of those being as a police chief.

While spending four years as Chief of Police in Baldwin, Florida, Turcotte was instrumental in decreasing the crime rate of the community by 46% in his first year of office. Similar numbers appeared in his first year of office as Chief of Police in Cedar Grove, Florida as well, with the crime rate being reduced by 49%.

After the official announcement, Glasgow Mayor Rhonda Trautman talked about how difficult of a process it had been to find the perfect candidate for this particular position.

Trautman collaborated with a specially-chosen committee that consisted of community leaders Freddie Norris, Ben Rogers, and Tommy Pendleton.  The committee went through a “tremendous number” of applications (29 applied for the position) and then narrowed the race down to eight candidates.  These eight were interviewed, and Turcotte particularly stood out among them for his personality and community

leadership capabilities.

Turcotte was greatly appreciative of the community support at the official announcement, and stressed the fact that he wanted to come in and get started right away on doing the “right thing for our citizens.” He said that his first task as police chief will be to get to know the people who he will be working with, as well as to fully learn the “ins and outs” of the community.

While Turcotte is relatively new to the area, as the majority of his work experience has occurred in different parts of Florida, he already believes that Glasgow is a special community to work in.
