September 1, 1970 – 44 of the original 71 members of the GHS class of 1960 attended its first reunion at Holiday Inn.

New teachers in the Glasgow School system are Lowell Scott, Dorthea Chamberlain, Marcus Hume, Patty Webster, Marvin Fitzgerald, Fran Myer, Karen Martin, Rebecca Pedigo, Darwin Baggett, Cookie Whiteside, Shirley Ingebritsen, Brenda Ward, Bob Duvall, Marsha Ray and Geneva Perkins.

September 2, 1970 – Sickness of an undetermined origin has hospitalized some 17 employees at Sorensen Manufacturing since last Friday.

Monroe Rest Home holds open house as well as Tri County Electric Membership Coop in Tompkinsville.

September 3, 1970 – John Maupin is honored at a dinner celebrating his 50 years of employment with the same firm. He began working with Lessenberry and Jones Feed Company when he was 12 years old and now works at Lessenberry Building Center.

September 4, 1970 – Fred L Travis, Donald Rutledge and Wendell Frazier filed petitions to seek re-election to the Glasgow School Board.

September 8, 1970 – Mrs. Betty Welch Smith was crowned Queen of Tompkinsville’s Sesquicentennial.

Central Center Shopping Center opens with the following businesses – Grants, Youth Villa, Kroger, Watsons, The Sport Shop, Western Auto, Begley Drugs, Paddle Wheel Gift Shop,  andAl Branham’s Barber Shop.
September 9, 1970 – An apparent twister picked up a large house trailor this morning. Two residents of the trailor miracously escaped injury – Mrs. Phil Lowry and daughter, Kimberly, 13 months old.

September 10, 1970 – 1970-71 FHA officers at Temple Hill are Brenda Mizell, Jane Nuckols, Kaye McGUire, Brenda Harvey, Jo Cunningham, Carolyn Kinslow, Jane Bowman, Bonnie Davidson, Jackie Matthews, Ann Grinstead and Donna Evans.

September 11, 1970 – Mrs. Bryant B. Houchens was elected president of the Barren County Homemakers at the Glasgow Holiday Inn. She succeeds Mrs. Philip Wilson.

September 14, 1970 – Glasgow High School FHA officers are Jerri Staples, Joan Spurling, Teresa McCandless, Sarah Gentry, Kathy Bridges, Mary Jones, Eva Jones, Teresa Tinsley, Teresa Bailey, and Deborah Hardison.

September 15, 1970 – Edmonton’s Tom Emberton is expected to announce his candidacy for Governor.

September 16, 1970 – Green Hill Manor, the newest personal care home serving central Kentucky opens its doors this weekend.

September 17, 1970 – Local servicemen in the area are Daskal Vaughn, Maxie Perry, Gary Bertram, Prentis Willis, James Stockton, Lee Roy Billingsley, Charles Holbert, Tommy Sorrell, Freddie Polson, Clarence Ballard and John S. Barlow, Jr.

September 18, 1970 – AD – Grand opening of David Martin Florist, Sunday, September 20th, at 204 E. Washington Street..

September 21, 1970 -  Jeff Harp was the winner of the personal size TV given by the Citizens Bank & Trust during their open house at the new Wall Street branch.

Six new Teachers have joined the Austin Tracy Faculty for the 1970-71 year. Miss Linda Helm, Mrs. Anna Spillman, Mrs. Faye Steenbergen, Mrs. Shirley Siddens, Mrs. G. E. Page and Mrs. Carol Perkins.

September 22, 1970 – Austin Tracy Fall  Festival King & Queen are Darrell Wilkerson and Nancy Thomas. Prince and Princess were Mark Woodcock and Anita Wells.

September 24, 1970 – Work begins this morning on news office of the Chamber of Commerce in the City Parking Lot.

September 25, 1970 – Homecoming candidate at Temple Hill High School are Debbie Smith, Teresa Bartlett, LaNetta Clark, Brenda Vance, Sherry Jones, Wendy Richardson, Jane Nuckols, Anne Grinstead, Jackie Jones, Kathy Simpson, Jane Bowman and Brenda Chapman.

September 27, 1970 – Glasgow Fireman responded to a fire at Happy Valley School when an overheated boiler in the furnace room was detected. Considerable steam but no fire and no injuries.

September 28, 1970 – Kroger opens in Central Center. Charles Livesay, Manager, Gene Jones, Head Meat Cutter, Elaine Bagby, Head Cashier, Rick Jenkins, Head Produce Clerk and Tommy Garrett, Head Grocery Clerk.

September 30, 1970 – Kiwanis Club installs new officers Ed Pugh, Dan Lamont, Ralph Palmore and Leroy Williams.

The marriage of Miss Rebecca Jones to Joseph Downing Austin will take place October 4 at Dover Baptist Church.
