September 3, 1980 – Cave City Volunteer Fire Department Treasurer Bobby Bunnell accepts a $100 donation from Cave City Lodge Member Harry Spillman for the fire department’s “Jaws of Life” fund.

September 4, 1980 – Hiseville City Council will interview applicants for a part time policeman when it meets in a special session. The need for a policeman comes from teenagers congregating in downtown Hiseville at night.

September 5, 1980 – Flora Pullium celebrated her 100th birthday with a party and potluck dinner at Abundant Life Christian Home on Wednesday, September 3rd. Debbie Bunch, activities director assisted Mrs. Pulliam in looking at all her cards.

September 7, 1980 – 17 year old Beth Hill was crowned 1980 Miss Cave City. First runner up was Dawn Mercer and second runner up was Kim Trowbridge. Crystal Allen and Mark Wade were crowned Cave City’s Prince and Princess during Cave City’s Good Ole Day Celebration.

September 9, 1980 – The City of Glasgow will hire a consultant to study the local cable television system, as complaints about poor reception continue.

September 10, 1980 – The Four Squares were the winners of the Summer League at Freedom Lanes. They were Thelma Williams, Jean Underwood, Egene Smith and Mildred Albany.

A Railton farmer, Willard Deckard, recently fell from a pickup truck and injured his back. This week over 60 folks in the community pitched in to cut and house his 3 ½ acres of tobacco. Homemakers in the area also prepared food for the day.
September 12, 1980 – Open House is held at Citizens Bank and Trust’s new downtown office. Music was provided by Billy Vaughn’s Dixieland band.

Mrs. Helen B. Russell, social studies teacher at Barren County High School has been selected to receive one of the National Council for Geographic Education’s 1980 Merit Teacher Award.

September 14, 1980 – The founder of the Houchens Grocery Store chain, Ervin Houchens, said Saturday that his company has entered into a sale agreement with Malone Hyde & Company.

Carolyn Kelly Redford was the winner of the 1980 Junior Miss Pageant Saturday night. First runner up was Sherry Rascoe, and second runner up was Deborah Pickett.

September 18, 1980 – The 100th Pilot License from the Jewell Flying Service has been issued to Christopher Keen from Scottsville, Kentucky.

Jimmy Mortimer is cheering for the UK Wildcats for the second year in a row.

September 19, 1980 – Members of the Father Dunn Council of the Knights of Columbus installed Paul Bastien as Grand Knight at their dinner meeting Monday night.

September 21, 1980 – The winners of the Radio Shack End of the Month Giveaway at Ely #4 – Radio Shack on Park Avenue was Krissie Coe of Glasgow.

September 22, 1980 – Jimmy Estes and Cherolyn Bacon were crowned Farm Bureau King and Queen at their annual meeting.

September 23, 1980 – Running back Jeff Laird was named WBKO-TV player of the week for his performance in the Caverna-Adair Co. game when he gained 176 yards on 14 carries.

September 24, 1980 – Mary Pickett of Southern Explosives Co. presented a check totaling more than $1500 to Chief Bob Hunt of the Cave City Fire Department for the “Jaws of Life” fund raising project.

Open house is being planned at Joan Jones’ Academy of Hair Design located on Washington Street across from the County Courthouse.

September 26, 1980 – Saturday night on TV – ABC – Love Boat, Fantasy Island, CBS – Tim Conway, Movie “Marathon Man”, and NBC – Movie “Centennial”.

September 28, 1980 – 1955 class of Temple Hill High School held its 25th reunion Saturday night at the Copper Frog. 20 of 26 class members were present.

September 29, 1980 – James L (Jim) Marion, former teacher and coach at Glasgow Junior High School has joined the staff of Pedigo Lessenberry Insurance Agency.

September 30, 1980 – Tompkinsville Artesian Hascal Haile joins with guitarist Chet Atkins in presenting a guitar made by Haile to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.
