Community Calendar Event- Wednesday, September 17, 2014

The Glasgow High School Site-Base Decision Making Council September meeting will meet in regular session today at 4PM in GHS in front office.

There will be a Paying for College 101 class, this Thursday, September 18 at 6PM at Western Kentucky University, Glasgow Campus.  The class is free, call and reserve you seat at 670-6908. Pre-registration is required, for more information or to register call 670-6908 or email at marcus.kingrey@

Plans are underway for the implementation of the 1st Reunion and Celebration of the South Central Kentucky High School Basketball Players, Coaches and Cheerleaders Reunion for those who played, coached or cheered during the years, 1950 through 2000.  The event will begin this Friday, September 19 with a banquet at Barren County High School for players, coaches and cheerleaders and their guests and this Saturday, September 20 will be a Fun Day at Beaver Trail Park that will be open to the public and will include food vendors, live music, games and other entertainment. The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will again present Harvest of History as a fundraiser for the center this Friday, September 19 and this Saturday, September 20 beginning at 6pm nightly. Tickets are $12 and are available at the Cultural Center. Transportation is provided to the cemetery from the Cultural Center. The historical characters this year are :  U G McFarland portrayed by Jim Nelson, Nan Bishop portrayed by Charlene Wisdom, Dr. William Cundiff  Richards portrayed by Steve Welborn, Fontaine Clark,  portrayed by James Neal, P W Grinstead, portrayed by Jake Dickinson, Lera B. Mitchell, portrayed by Krissie Coe Fields and Doris Barlow Yancey, portrayed by Marilyn Melloan.

Barren County Foster/Adoptive Parent Association will sponsor a pancake breakfast this Saturday, September 20 at the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ from 7am to 12noon.  All you can eat pancakes, eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy for $6.00. Children ten and under eat for $4.00.  There will also be inflatables, an auction, raffles and more.  Delivery is available by calling 270-670-8872.

Barren County Farm Bureau Federation Annual Membership Meeting will be this Saturday, September 20 at 6:30PM at Barren County Trojan Academy. There will be a dinner catered by Barren County Cattleman's Association with a business meeting and youth contest, also a Measure the Candidates program following the meal. Barren County Farm Bureau Members may pick up their FREE tickets at the Barren County Farm Bureau Offices. Drawings for door prizes will be held at the end of program.

Glasgow Musicale 3rd Annual Best of the Barrens Talent Showcase and Silent Auction will be this Sunday, September 21 at First Christian Church..Silent auction begins at 1:30PM and music program at 2PM.  Admission is free and open to the public. Music program will feature some of our finest area musicians, and Silent Auction will feature goods and services from local business and artisans. Silent Auction proceeds will benefit the Glasgow Musicale's Stephen Foster Music Camp Scholarship for local music students.

The Cave Country College Fair will be held at the Glasgow National Guard Armory on Wednesday, September 23 from 5 to 7pm.   Representatives from various colleges, tech schools and branches of the armed services will be onsite to distribute information and answer questions.

A blood drive will be held at Western Kentucky University on Wednesday, September 24 from 1:30 to 5:30pm.   Look for the American Red Cross Bus.  All blood types are needed.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Friday at the Bunch Center beginning at 6:30PM. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested in being of the Global Fest Committee is encouraged to attend.

BCHS Class of 1979 will have their 35th Class Reunion, Saturday, September 27 at 6PM at Barren River Lodge. Call Sheila Pursley Bunch at 576-6262 for further details.

HoofBeats 4-H will host a horse show on Saturday, September 27 at the Cross Country Saddle Club at Haywood beginning at 4pm.

Linwood Days in Hart County will be Saturday, September 27 beginning with ham and biscuits at 6am. Activities include live music beginning at 8am; a parade at noon; silent auction at 2pm; dunking booth; bounce house; marshmallow shoot and food will be served all day.   For more information call Marlene or Danny at 270-528-3017 or Stephanie Elmore at 270-528-7495.

Loving Lodge 323 F and AM of Fountain Run will sponsor a Fish Fry on Saturday, September 27 from 2PM to 7PM.  Enjoy a plate of fish, slaw, French fries, hush puppies, dessert and drink for only $5.00. The 29th Annual Roller Coaster Fair will be held October 2 through October 4 going through Cave City, Glasgow, Burkesville, Temple Hill, Mud Lick, Byrdstown, Tennessee and many other communities.

Metcalfe County Community Education will offer a class on the Do’s and Don’ts in Selling on EBay on Monday, September 29 from 6 to 8pm. The class will be held at the Metcalfe County Board of Education Conference Room. The cost is $10 and the instructor will be David Bastien. Registration is required for all Metcalfe County Community Education Classes by calling Geneva Scroggy at 270-432-0553.

There will be Beginning Excel class on Mondays and Thursdays; October 20, 23, 27 and 30 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Barren County High School. The cost will be $30 and the instructor will be Deborah Russell. Pre-registration is required, for more information call 670-6908 or email marcus.kingrey@

A Beginning Class in Tatting will be held in two sessions on October 21 and October 28 from 5:30 to 6:30PM.  The instructor is Laura White and the cost is $10 plus your supply list.  Pre-Registration is required for all Metcalfe County Community Education Classes by calling Geneva Scroggy at 270-432-0553.

A class in “How to Train Your Dog” will be held in the field behind the blue gym in Edmonton in four sessions on Thursday, October 23, October 30, November 6 and November 13 from 4PM to 6PM.
