Community Calendar Event Wednesday, July 1, 2015


The Community Soup Kitchen Regular Hours for the summer are Monday and Thursdays from 11:30AM to 1PM at the Liberty District Bunche Community Center.

Star and Stripes Beauty Pageant will be this Friday, July 3 at the Bonnieville Elementary School at 5pm. You may pre-register at 5pm. For more information call Joel Attebery at 270-528-6485. Concession will be available.

Cave City Community Fireworks Display and Nightfall in Concert will be this Friday, July 3 at 1002 Mammoth Cave Road in Cave City.  Nightfall will be in concert from 7 to 9pm, fireworks at 9 and then Nightfall for an additional hour after the fireworks.  The event is free and concessions will be available at 5pm.

The Barren County Child Support office will be closed this Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day

The Barren County Courthouse will be closed, this Friday, July 3 for the State Observed Independence Day Holiday. There will be NO Written or Road Test this date. We will reopen at 8AM Monday, July 6.

Glasgow City Hall will be closed this Friday, July 3 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. Friday’s trash and recycle bins will be picked up on Monday, July 6.  Please have out by 7am.  There will be no bus service and the Glasgow Landfill will close at 10am and reopen Monday, July 6 to normal operation schedule. To allow city employees time to spend with their families, there will be no Saturday Drop Off recycling at Southgate Plaza on Saturday, July 4.

Caverna High School Advisory Council will meet Monday, July 6 in the high school library at 5:30pn.

Painting Just for Kids Class – Advanced, will be held Thursdays, July 16, 23, 30, August 6 from 3:30-5:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church.  You will be using a palette knife and other tools for most of your painting. Students must have completed Level II before enrolling in this class. Class is for children ages 6 – 12.  The instructor is Patty Hughes and the cost is $35. Pre-Registration required. "Murder at the Howard Johnson's" dinner theatre--Far Off Broadway Players will present adult comedy about an ill-fated love triangle and three botched murder plots at the Cave City Convention Center July 17 & 18 beginning with dinner at 6:00 for $30 and July 19 at 2:00 show only $15.00.  Call 270-773-3131 for tickets.

The Barren County Courthouse will be closed on Thursday, July 23 for AOC Infrastructure upgrade. There will be no written or road test.  The courthouse will reopen on Friday, July 24 at 8am.

Metcalfe County Head Start currently has openings for the upcoming school year.  If your child will be three or four years old by August 1, they may be eligible for Head Start.  Please contact the center for more information at 432-7236.

Painting Just for Kids – Level II will be on Wednesdays, July 29, August 5, 12, 19 from 3:30-5:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church.  This class allows the child to create a painting using his/her own topic choice at the appropriate skills level. Highland Elementary Back to School Bash will be Thursday, July 30 from 5PM to 7PM at the school. All food is free and please bring a towel and wear a swimsuit.  Enrollment and transportation forms are available at Glasgow.kyschools.us.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Thursday of each month at the Bunch Center beginning at 5:30PM.  Everyone is invited. Volunteers are needed to plan new events for the festival.

Harvest of History 2015 will be September 18 and September 19.  Seven individuals from our local history will be portrayed.  Historic characters from an inventor, an athlete, an early newspaper owner will be portrayed to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the Glasgow Daily times, a young wife and mother of the 1870’s, a WWI Soldier, an inspirational teacher and a tale of a natural disaster.
