Community Calendar Event Wednesday, May 6, 2015


Registration for Adult Softball is ongoing at the Glasgow Parks and Recreation Department. The leagues being offered are Men’s, Co-ed, and Church.  League play will begin June 1. This year the leagues will be sanctioned by ASA Softball.

The Barren County Health Department Relay for Life, “Screen Team” Fundraiser will be this Friday, May 8 from 10AM to 4PM. The cost will be $6 for a BBQ Shoulder Sandwich Meal, chips, snack cake and drink. There will also be a bake sale, crafts, jewelry, monogramming, clothes, a raffle basket and much more. Please call orders in by 10AM at 427-8850.

The Barren River Welfare Association Annual Bake Sale and Adoption Event will be this Saturday, May 9 at 8AM at the food entrance of the Glasgow Wal-Mart. BRAWA always has a great variety of baked goods from cakes, pies, breads and homemade treats for the four-legged family members. Donations of supplies for the shelter will also be accepted. There will be a Community Yard Sale and Car Wash, this Saturday, May 9 from 8AM to 1PM at the Center United Methodist Church. Proceeds will benefit Community Outreach-Youth Groups. Cancelled if raining.

Metcalfe County Relay for Life Committee and teams are hosting a Celebrity Barbeque cook off. The event will be Saturday, May 16 from 5PM to 7PM at the Leftwich Hall at Bowling Park. Tickets are $5 and this lets you sample all that you want and gives a ticket to vote for their favorite. There will also be a cake auction following the tasting. A Maternity, Baby and Kids Expo will be Sunday, May 17 from 12PM to 4PM at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green. Vendors will be set up ranging from kids attire, healthcare, kids activities, newest baby products, food, spas and much more. Admission is $5. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the MS Society.

A video/discussion program that raises awareness of the signs of child sexual abuse and steps you can take to lessen the chances of this occurring to your child will be Tuesday, May 19 at 6PM at the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Thursday of each month at the Bunch Center beginning at 5:30PM.  Everyone is invited. Volunteers are needed to plan new events for the festival.

There will be an Affordable Easy Meals for Families cooking class, Wednesday, May 20 at 10AM at Columbia Avenue Church of Christ. There will be free food and door prizes. The first 20 to register will receive a free bag of groceries. For more information or to register call 651-3818.

The BCHS Cheerleaders will be hosting the Trojan Cheer Electric Color Run (5K), Saturday, May 30 at 8PM. Registration will begin at 7:15PM. Race starts and ends at the Trojan Football Field. All participants are encouraged to show their colors! We will have glow in the dark body paint and other glow supplies with lots of beautiful color for sale as well!
