City Cleanup week for the City of Glasgow will be through this Friday, March 27. Residents may place extra trash, large items and bagged or boxed items curbside to be picked up on the same days as your normal garbage pickup. Items that will not be picked up include appliances, liquid pesticides, auto batteries and parts, asbestos, tires or construction materials. Tree and shrub trimmings must be tied in small bundles. Please have out by 7AM.

Barren County Cleanup week will be through this Friday, March 27. Today, Austin Tracy and Haywood Volunteer Fire Departments and Friday, Temple Hill Fair Grounds and South Barren Volunteer Fire Department on Steam Mill Road. You must bring your items between 7:30AM and 5PM and there will also be a recycling trailer at each location. No loose items or tires of any kind will be accepted. Leader in Me Leadership Day at Highland Elementary will be today from 9AM to 1PM. Please call the school for more information 659-0432. Anyone interested in learning more about the positive impact that the Leader in Me has had in developing our students as leaders is encouraged to come. Lunch is provided.

South Central Kentucky Historical & Genealogical Society will have Elizabeth Herron Bruner speak tonight at 6PM at the Mary Wood Weldon Library.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Thursday of each month at the Bunch Center beginning at 5:30PM.  Everyone is invited. Volunteers are needed to plan new events for the festival.

Metcalfe County Head Start Preschool Open Enrollment dates for 3 and 4 year old children for the 2015-2016 school year will be, this Friday, March 27 from 9AM to 10PM at the Child development Center in Edmonton. Square and Compass Club of Allen Lodge #24 F&AM will sponsor a Chili Supper this Saturday, March 28 at 5PM on the 3rd floor of the US Bank Building on South Green Street in Glasgow.  The cost is $5 for adults and children under 12 eat free.  Proceeds will be donated to Kids Hope.

AmeriCorps Build a Bed Project Papa John’s Fundraiser will be Tuesday, March 31. Participants must place an online order at Papa John’s and enter the code fundwfg. A portion of all sales with go to the Build a Bed Project.

As the mowing season approaches, the Cave City Cemetery requires that all objects be removed from graves within the cemetery by April 1. Nothing should be left on the graves to obstruct the mowing.  Objects shall be removed at the caretaker’s discretion. Thank you for your cooperation.

There will be a Kids Dance Class, Wednesday, April 1 and Tuesdays; April 14th, 21st and 28th from 3:30PM to 5PM at Metcalfe County Community Education Office. Blessings Unleashed Autism Action Day and Special Needs Summit will be Thursday, April 2 from 9AM to 10PM at Ralphies Fun Center. The cost will be $10 for a Wristband, which includes: Bowling, Skating, Mini golf, Time Freak, Inflatables and a Free Soft Drink and $4 for Laser Tag. $2 from each Wristband sold and $1 from each Laser Tag Game will go to the Blessing Unleashed Foundation. A benefit for Cassie Wilson Logsdon and family will be Friday, April 3 at the Bowling Park Gym in Edmonton beginning at 6pm. There will be an auction, singing and food.  Proceeds will go toward medical bills for Cassie’s treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. For more information call 590-8771.

Kentucky Heritage Quilt Show will be on display at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center through Saturday, April 4. There will be 30 quilts on display.

Crossland Community Church will host their first Barren County Easterfest, Saturday, April 4 from 12PM to 3PM at the Barren County Football Stadium. Easterfest is FREE and open to the public. There will be games, prizes, concessions, and over 20,000 eggs.

There will be a Caverna High School Advisory Council meeting on April 13 in the high school library at 5:30pm.

March of Dimes Madness will be Saturday, April 18 at the Barren County Middle School. The $5 meals will begin at 5PM and the game will begin at 7. Activities include Baskets for Babies, Basketball game between Doctors and nurses and chili/pizza supper and live entertainment, concessions, mid court shootout, auction testimonials from families affected by premature births.

The 8th Annual Butterflies for Maddie 5K Run/Walk and ½ mile Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, April 18 beginning at 8am at the Barren County YMCA. You may register online at or mail checks to Sherri Vibbert, 123 Beverly Hill Drive in Glasgow by April 10 for a discount.  Late registration will be held on Friday, April 17 from 5 to 8pm at the YMCA.

On Saturday, April 25 at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center, “History Rescued” an exhibition of the glass negatives from the late 1800’s that were given to the museum by Greg and Holly Hollander of Glasgow. Photos made from the glass negatives will be displaced as well as work of other area photographers of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

A Community Baby Safety Shower will be Thursday April 23 at Columbia Avenue Church of Christ from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm.  Event is an educational event sponsored by Barren, Caverna, and Glasgow Family Resource and Youth Service Centers and the Barren County Health Dept. designed to inform new and expectant parents about different aspects of health & safety concerning their newborn.  Event is for parents of children under 6 months of age or expectant mothers.  Free event, Great door prizes and lots of helpful information about keeping your baby healthy and safe. There will be a Tractor Drive, both antique and modern for a Hart County Relay for Life Event to be Saturday, April 25 that will begin at the Bale Warehouse #1 in Horse Cave at 10am. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in memory of Rickey Waddell and in honor of Jason Metcalfe. For more information call 270-537-4652.

Metcalfe County Relay for Life Committee and teams are hosting a Celebrity Barbeque cook off. The event will be held Saturday May 16 from 5PM to 7PM and will be held in the Leftwich Hall at Bowling Park. This will be an excellent way to support Relay for Life and show off your Barbeque skills. The event will be open to the public to participate in the tasting. Tickets are $5.00 and this lets you sample all that you want and gives a ticket to vote for their favorite. There will also be a cake auction following the tasting.
