A reunion is being planned for the 1974 graduating class of Park City High School.  Please contact Hoot Gibson at 270-404-1101 for more information.

Barren County Special Olympics and The Arc of Barren County will present a Balloon Launch on Friday, September 12 at 6:45PM prior to the Barren County High School Football Game. The goal is to launch 1000 balloons, each balloon representing an individual in our community with Special Needs. Balloons may be purchased for $5 each. Checks may be payable to Barren County Special Olympics and the Arc of Barren County. Please contact James Cheely at 270-590-8394 for your balloon purchase.

Monday and Tuesday’s trash and curbside recycling will be picked up today. Please have all trash curbside by 7:00 a.m.

Glasgow Middle School Football 'White-Out’ will be today for 7th and 8th grade first home game beginning at 5:30pm.

There will be a Caverna High School Advisory Council Meeting, today at 5:30PM in the high school library.

Hart of Autism will meet every Thursday at 6:30PM at the Munfordville Baptist Church. Educators and families interested in information, support and therapy for autism are invited and kids come too.

Metcalfe County Historical Society Fall Book fest and Genealogical Workshop with Sandi Goring will be Saturday, September 6 at Leftwich Hall, Bowling Park in Edmonton. The Book Fest will be from 9AM to 2Pm and admission is free. The Genalogy Workshop will be from 10AM to 11AM and the cost is $10.  All proceeds go toward restoration of Metcalfe County Jail. The 14th annual Global Fest in the Barrens will be Saturday, September 6 from 10AM to 5PM on the Glasgow Public Square. There will be music, dance, games and activities for children including Face Painting, Inflatables, Piñata Burst and International Crafts and Games. There will also be Cultural Educational Exhibits and Tasty Cuisine.

There will be a Gospel Singing and Benefit Auction for Connie Cox who had two heart attacks earlier this year, Saturday, September 6 at 5:30PM at Bowling Park in Edmonton. Concessions will be available. Proceeds will assist with medical bills and the high cost of medicines she must take monthly for her condition.

Mammoth Cave National Park will celebrate its fourth annual Bat Night on Saturday, September 6 beginning at 7PM at the historic entrance. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about bats, talk to bat researches and gain hands- on experience using the scientific equipment that researchers use to study bats.  All Bat Night events and activities are free and open to the public.

There will be an Acrylic Painting class for age 13 and above on Mondays; September 8 thru October 13 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at First Presbyterian Church. Metcalfe County Community Education Driver's Education Course is available for all area students including, home-school and out-of-county. Students must have a valid Driving Permit by October 27 to enroll in the fall course. The course schedule will be on Mondays; September 8, 15, 22, 29; October 13, 20, 27 and November 3, 10 and 17 from 3:30PM to 6:30PM in room 130 at MCHS. There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, September 8 at the Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse from 2 to 6pm in the Community Room.  All blood types are needed.

Metcalfe County Community Education will offer a CPR Class, Wednesday, September 10 from 3:30PM to 7:30PM at the Metcalfe County Community Education Office.  Cost depends on the number of registrations. This one day course will require some study time prior to September 10.  Come by the Community Education Office to pick up materials.  Pre-registration is required by call Geneva Scroggy at 432-0553.

The 31 W Treasure Hunt Yard Sale will be Thursday, September 11 through Saturday, September 13.  There will be multiple yard sales all along 31 W from Louisville to Nashville with many being held in Park City.

The 24th summer’s End Art Show will be Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 from 9AM to 6PM at the Allen County Extension Building. Admission is free. The exhibit features around 200 beautiful works of art - most are for sale.

Scoot to Boot Alzheimer’s Motorcycle ride to benefit research and awareness of Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, September 13.The ride begins and ends at Harley Davidson Bowling Green. The cost will be $10 single and $15 with rider. On-site registration begins at 8:30AM with kickstands up at 10AM. We will ride through the beautiful South Central Kentucky countryside and return to HD BG around 11:30AM for prize drawings, food and music.

There will be a Paying for College 101 class, Thursday, September 18 at 6PM at Western Kentucky University, Glasgow Campus.  The class is free, call and reserve you seat at 670-6908. South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will host a book signing on Saturday, September 13 from 1PM to 3PM. The author, Janice McLeod formerly from Glasgow was active in the New Comers Club and was a member of the Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The title of her book is “Bridges”.   Janice will tell how she got started as a writer, read one of her short stories aloud and conclude with a book signing.

Plans are underway for the implementation of the 1st Reunion and Celebration of the South Central Kentucky High School Basketball Players, Coaches and Cheerleaders Reunion for those who played, coached or cheered during the years, 1950 through 2000.  The event will begin on Friday, September 19 with a banquet at Barren County High School for players, coaches and cheerleaders and their guests and then on Saturday, September 20 will be a Fun Day at Beaver Trail Park that will be open to the public and will include food vendors, live music, games and other entertainment. The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will again present Harvest of History as a fundraiser for the center on September 19 and September 20 beginning at 6pm nightly. Tickets are $12 and are available at the Cultural Center. Transportation is provided to the cemetery from the Cultural Center. The historical characters this year are :  U G McFarland portrayed by Jim Nelson, Nan Bishop portrayed by Charlene Wisdom, Dr. William Cundiff  Richards portrayed by Steve Welborn, Fontaine Clark,  portrayed by James Neal, P W Grinstead, portrayed by Jake Dickinson, Lera B. Mitchell, portrayed by Krissie Coe Fields and Doris Barlow Yancey, portrayed by Marilyn Melloan.

A blood drive will be held at Western Kentucky University on Wednesday, September 24 from 1:30 to 5:30pm.   Look for the American Red Cross Bus.  All blood types are needed.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Friday at the Bunch Center beginning at 6:30PM. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested in being of the Global Fest Committee is encouraged to attend.

BCHS Class of 1979 will have their 35th Class Reunion, Saturday, September 27 at 6PM at Barren River Lodge. Call Sheila Pursley Bunch at 576-6262 for further details.

There will be Beginning Excel class on Mondays and Thursdays; October 20, 23, 27 and 30 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Barren County High School.
