Barren County Special Olympics and The Arc of Barren County will present a Balloon Launch on Friday, September 12 at 6:45PM prior to the Barren County High School Football Game. The goal is to launch 1000 balloons, each balloon representing an individual in our community with Special Needs. Balloons may be purchased for $5 each. Checks may be payable to Barren County Special Olympics and the Arc of Barren County. Please contact James Cheely at 270-590-8394 for your balloon purchase.

The Barren County Family YMCA will host a Health Fair, today from 10AM to 12PM in the big gym.

The Glasgow High School Site-Base Decision Making Council April meeting will meet in regular session today at 4PM in the GHS in front office..

Hart of Autism will meet every Thursday at 6:30PM at the Munfordville Baptist Church. Educators and families interested in information, support and therapy for autism are invited and kids come too.

Registration for Kiwanis Soccer is ongoing through August 22 at the Glasgow Recreation from 7:30AM to 4:30PM Monday through Friday. Registration fee is $45 and the divisions are Mini for ages 5 and 6 and Junior for ages 7, and 9. All games and practices will be held at the Glasgow/ Barren County Soccer Complex.

Austin Tracy High School Reunion will be Saturday, September 6 from 1PM to 4 PM at the Austin Tracy gym. All students, grades 1-12, who attended from 1934-1973 are invited Teachers/spouses/guests also invited. There will be a cost of $5 per person in advance by August 22, to ATHS Reunion, PO Box 335, Glasgow KY 42142. For more information call Brenda Bush at 502-226-0230.

The Barren County Circuit Court Clerk’s Driver License Division will be open on Saturday, August 23 from 8AM to 11AM.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive, Saturday, August 23 from 11:30AM to 4:30PM at Marquee Cinema Theater. There is still a critical need for all blood types.

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Glasgow First Methodist Church in the Family Life Center on Monday, August 25 from 1PM to 5PM.  There is a critical need for all blood types.

Mammoth Cave National Park will offer free Mammoth Passage cave tours on Monday, August 25 in recognition of the founding day of the National Park Service. The free Mammoth Passage tours will depart from the visitor center at the following times: 10:30AM, 11AM, 12PM, 12:30PM, 1PM, 2PM and 3:30PM. Participants need to pick up a free ticket in the visitor center before going on the tour.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Friday at the Bunch Center beginning at 6:30PM. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested in being of the Global Fest Committee is encouraged to attend.

The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will have an open house on August 27 from 1:30PM to 3:30PM for Winston Nunn whose photos of Glasgow and surrounding areas from 1940 to the late 1980’s will be on display through late October.   Winston attended Glasgow High School and the University of Louisville.  He was started taking and developing pictures while in high school and he worked on the university newspaper and yearbook staff.

There will be a Benefit for Jessie Houchens, Saturday, August 30 at 2PM at the Pavilion behind Little Country Diner. There will be an Auction, Music, Concession, Quilt Raffle, Corn Hole Games, Country Ham Raffle, Cake/Book Walk, 50/50 Money Raffle at Benefit and Face Painting. All proceeds will go to help with Jessie's funeral expenses. For more information or to donate call Penny at 590-4129.

The Office of Joanne London, Barren County Clerk will be closed from Saturday, August 30 though Monday, September 1 in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Hiseville Christian Church will sponsor a Big Country Breakfast on Saturday, August 30 from 7AM to 10:30AM at the church. Menu consists of Country Ham, Sausage, Bacon, Gravy, Biscuits, Eggs, Hash-Browns, Sliced Tomatoes, Coffee, Milk, Juice and enough Red-Eyed Gravy to float a bass boat.  All proceeds will benefit the Galilean Children’s Home.  For more information call Jim Rich at 590-5569 or Jerel Smith at 404-5687.

Chris’ Fight Car Show will be Saturday, August 30 from 4PM to 8PM in Downtown Cave City. The entry fee is $10. There will be Trophies given to 1st and 2nd place. There will be goodie bags, door prizes, concessions and a dunking booth.  All proceeds will go to Friedrich Ataxia and Cave City Fire Department. For more information call Amanda at 590-5542.

Glasgow Middle School Football 'White-Out’ will be held on  Tuesday, September 2   for 7th and 8th grade first home game beginning at 5:30pm.

There will be a Gospel Singing and Benefit Auction for Connie Cox who had two heart attacks earlier this year, Saturday, September 6 at 5:30PM at Bowling Park in Edmonton. Concessions will be available. Proceeds will assist with medical bills and the high cost of medicines she must take monthly for her condition.

The 14th annual Global Fest in the Barrens will be held on Saturday, September 6 from 10am to 5pm and will be held on the Glasgow Public Square.  Lots of music, dance, games, activities for children including Face Painting, Inflatables, Pinata Burst and International Crafts and Games. There will also be Cultural Educational Exhibits and Tasty Cuisine.

Metcalfe County Community Education Driver's Education Course is available for all area students including, home-school and out-of-county. Students must have a valid Driving Permit by October 27 to enroll in the fall course. The course schedule will be on Mondays; September 8, 15, 22, 29; October 13, 20, 27 and November 3, 10 and 17 from 3:30PM to 6:30PM in room 130 at MCHS. The 24th Summer's End Art Show will be Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13 from 9AM to 6PM at the Allen County Extension Building. Admission is free. The exhibit features around 200 beautiful works of art - most are for sale.

Scoot to Boot Alzheimer’s Motorcycle ride to benefit research and awareness of Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, September 13.The ride begins and ends at Harley Davidson Bowling Green. The cost will be $10 single and $15 with rider. On-site registration begins at 8:30AM with kickstands up at 10AM. We will ride through the beautiful South Central Kentucky countryside and return to HD BG around 11:30AM for prize drawings, food and music.

Plans are underway for the implementation of the 1st Reunion and Celebration of the South Central Kentucky High School Basketball Players, Coaches and Cheerleaders Reunion for those who played, coached or cheered during the years, 1950 through 2000.  The event will begin on Friday, September 19 with a banquet at Barren County High School for players, coaches and cheerleaders and their guests and then on Saturday, September 20 will be a Fun Day at Beaver Trail Park that will be open to the public and will include food vendors, live music, games and other entertainment. The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will again present Harvest of History as a fundraiser for the center on September 19 and September 20 beginning at 6pm nightly. Tickets are $12 and are available at the Cultural Center. Transportation is provided to the cemetery from the Cultural Center.  The historical characters this year are :  U G McFarland portrayed by Jim Nelson, Nan Bishop portrayed by Charlene Wisdom, Dr. William Cundiff  Richards portrayed by Steve Welborn, Fontaine Clark,  portrayed by James Neal, P W Grinstead, portrayed by Jake Dickinson, Lera B. Mitchell, portrayed by Krissie Coe Fields and Doris Barlow Yancey, portrayed by Marilyn Melloan.

South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will host a book signing on Saturday, September 13 from 1PM to 3PM. The author, Janice McLeod formerly from Glasgow was active in the New Comers Club and was a member of the Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The title of her book is “Bridges”.   Janice will tell how she got started as a writer, read one of her short stories aloud and conclude with a book signing.

BCHS Class of 1979 will have their 35th Class Reunion, Saturday, September 27 at 6PM at Barren River Lodge. Call Sheila Pursley Bunch at 576-6262 for further details.
