Community Calendar Event- Wednesday, July 23, 2014

 

The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will have a Watercolor Class Thursdays; July 24th and 31st at 10AM. The cost will be $15 and instructor is Jane Ward Kerht.

Hart of Autism will meet every Thursday at 6:30PM at the Munfordville Baptist Church.  Educators and families interested in information, support and therapy for autism are invited and kids come too.

Glasgow Barren County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social this Thursday from 1PM to 3PM at the chamber office. There will be many varieties of homemade and specialty ice creams to choose from.

The South Central KY Historical/Genealogical Society meeting will be this Thursday, July 24 from 6PM to 8PM at the Mary Wood Weldon Library. Kentucky Museum Director, Timothy Mullin will be available to appraise antiques and collectibles at the meeting. This event is sponsored by the Society and is open to the public. There will be a short business meeting prior to the appraisals.

There will be no meeting of the South Central KY Historical & Genealogical Society July meeting will be held at the Mary Wood Weldon Library, this Thursday, July 24 at 6:30PM.  Also, at this meeting, the proposed slate of officers for the 2014-2015 year will be voted upon by the membership and will take office.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive this Friday, July 25 from 2PM to 7PM at Zaxby's. There is still a critical need for all blood types.

There will be a Global Fest Meeting every 4th Friday at the Bunch Center beginning at 6:30PM. Everyone is invited. Anyone interested in being of the Global Fest Committee is encouraged to attend.

The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library will present Director Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity Stars, this Saturday, July 26 at 1PM.

There will be a Community-Wide 100 Mile Potluck this Saturday from 5 to 7pm at the Barren County Extension Office.  Admission is a potluck dish for 8 to 10 people made with locally grown or produced food obtained within 100 miles of Glasgow.  For more information call 270-651-3818.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive Monday, July 28 from 1PM to 6PM at First Baptist Church in Tompkinsville, There is still a critical need for all blood types.

There will be NO Driver Testing, written or skill in Barren County on Friday, August 1 due to Examiner’s attending a In-Service Training.

Highland Elementary Back to School Bash will be Tuesday, July 29 from 5PM to 7PM at the Highland Elementary Campus. All food is free; there will be water inflatables so bring a water towel and wear a swimsuit. If you would like to fill out an enrollment and transportation form before the Bash come by the school or find them on the school website Glasgow.kyschools.us.

South Green Elementary Back To School Bash will be Monday, August 4 from 5:30PM to 8PM at Ralphies Fun Center.

Learn to Western Square Dance at the Park City Lions Club every Tuesday from 7PM to 8PM beginning August 5.  For more information call Donna at 404-2422 or 670-5092.

A benefit will be held for Katie Dozer on Saturday, August 9 at the Core in Scottsville which is located at 309 West Cherry Street beginning at 4pm.   There will be a Cake Walk, BBQ Plate, Auction and more.   Money raised will benefit medical expenses for a double lung transplant.  For more information call 270-670-1355.

There will be a Benefit for Jessie Houchens, Saturday, August 30 at 2PM at the Pavilion behind Little Country Diner. There will be an Auction, Concession, Quilt Raffle, Corn Hole Games, Country Ham Raffle, Cake/Book Walk, 50/50 Money Raffle at Benefit and Face Painting. All proceeds will go to help with Jessie's funeral expenses. If you would like to donate contact Penny Houchens at 590-4129.

Plans are underway for the implementation of the 1st Reunion and Celebration of the South Central Kentucky High School Basketball Players, Coaches and Cheerleaders Reunion for those who played, coached or cheered during the years, 1950 through 2000.  The event will begin on Friday, September 19 with a banquet at Barren County High School for players, coaches and cheerleaders and their guests and then on Saturday, September 20 will be a Fun Day at Beaver Trail Park that will be open to the public and will include food vendors, live music, games and other entertainment.
