April 1970


April 1, 1970 – The Planning and Zoning Commission of Glasgow met to hear a proposal by the County to rezone a 48 acre parcel of land near Cave City for purpose of constructing a 72 apartment complex on the site.


April 2, 1970 – Spring’s first storm ripped through the Glasgow area amid torrential rains with 45 miles per hour winds and threats of tornadoes.  A large tobacco barn on B.C. Turner Farm was completely destroyed.  


April 7, 1970 – Glasgow’s newest lawyer, Benny Dickinson was sworn in by Judge Cass Walden.


April 8, 1970 – Steve Richardson celebrated his 7th birthday at his parent’s home.  Guests were Leslie Reagan, Rhonda Elmore, Brad Hagan, Daryl Knicely, Brad Calvert and Rock Collier.


April 9, 1970 – Employees at National Store included Manager Lawrence  Brandy, Clo Leech, Lois Gibbons, Paul Smith, Eleanor Hammer, Carolyn Harp, Alene Ice, Delton Dawsey, Albert Polson and Ray Proffitt.


April 10, 1970 – The winners of the Correct Posture poster contest   were Cynthia White, 1st place, Lisa Bowman 2nd place, Cherry Smith 3rd place and Jackie Mansfield 4th place.


The two story brick house at the corner of West Washington and Liberty will be sold at auction by Bailey and Grissom.  Mr. Sam Simpson, owner.  
 
 
April 15, 1970 – Park City Future Homemakers of America officers for 1970 are Loretta Martin, President, Jane Holman, 1st V.P., Louise Bagby 2nd V.P., Carla Grider, Secretary, Gayle Smith, Treasurer, Bonita Howard, Historian, Arlene Hester, Reporter, Anita Grider, Song Leader, Beverly Galloway, Recreation Leader and Joanne Blazejewski, Parliamentarian.


April 16, 1970 – Barren County Teachers Association officers are Botts Myers, President, W.A. Rock, President-elect, Patricia Perkins, V.P., Virginia Thomsen, Secretary, Lennie Bagby Treasurer and Anna Edwards, Reporter.


April 22, 1970 – Major Ralph Palmore accepts command of the Ky. National Guard unit here for Glasgow, replacing Lt. Col. Joe Lane Travis.


April 23, 1970 – Plans are shown for the new clubhouse at the Glasgow Golf & Country Club.


April 28, 1970 – Delmar Simmons has been promoted to  Assistant Sales Manager by the American Bread Co.


Glasgow Food, Inc. is saluted as one of 86 new industries in Kentucky by U.S. Senator Thurston B. Morton.


April 30, 1970 – AD-  Treat yourself with delicious Kurly-Q French Fried potatoes at the Tasty Freeze on Columbia Avenue.
