January 2, 1990 – Cave City Mayor Chris Holder is sworn in along with six city Councilmen, Tim Gibson, C. R. Blakey, Tom White, Dennis Toms, Stanley Doyle and Hershell Renick.


Two final shots declared the winner of the Scottie Classic. Barren County Sophomore Steven Ragle hit a three pointer and Fred Stockton mixed a shot with three seconds to go in the game. Barren County won 48-47. Barren County players included Ragle, Chris Toms, and Scott Young. GHS players included Stockton, Nate Allen and Jonathan Bradshaw.


January 3, 1990 – Jamie Loucille Smith is the first baby born in Barren County in the year of 1990.


January 5, 1990 – Site preparation begins for the new Wal Mart store on the By pass. Other tenants in the shopping center will include Watsons, Goodys, and a grocery store.


January 7. 1990 – Krista Button is crowned Caverna Basketball Homecoming Queen.


January 12, 1990 – An all time record was set in 1989 for responses made by the Barren Metcalfe Ambulance Service. 4, 602 requests for services were made.


January 16, 1990 – Jerry Hampton is the new President of Barren Bassmasters. Larry Carter is VP, Bill Marsh, treasurer, Glenn Reeves, Secretary, Directors Timmy Curley, Dale Richey, Phil Toms, James Denton, Stacy Marsh and Earl Jones.


January 17, 1990 – Transportation Secretary Milo Bryant announces the reconstruction of Morrison Park Hill on Hwy. 63.


January 19, 1990 – Jennifer Carter is named Sweetheart and Greg Wilson is named Beau at Metcalfe County’s Homecoming Basketball game.


January 22, 1990 – Doug Isenberg and Sam Norris announce they are candidates for State Representative in the 23rd District.


January 24, 1990 – President Uhel Barrickman and President Elect Beula Nunn of the Barren County Historical Foundation, Inc. announce plans to purchase the former Kentucky Pants Company building on N. Race Street.


January 25, 1990 – Druther’s Restaurant opens in Edmonton. Royce Smith is the owner and Herb Bunch is the general manager.


January 26, 1990 – Wayne Simon is the 1989 employee of the year at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.


January 30, 1990 – Dr. Gary Lane, Nutritionist for Burkmann Mills, will be the guest speaker at Barren County and Hiseville Young Farmers’ meeting.


January 31, 1990 – Three new members are introduced at the Glasgow Rotary Club – Bob Yarbough, Bill Stapleton and Steve Biggers.
