Saturday, 22 March 2014 05:38

The Glasgow Fire Department responded at 12:28pm to 309 East Washington street for a report of a house on fire. On arrival firefighters found the fire was already venting out of the kitchen windows on the first floor and heavy smoke was coming out from various openings all over the structure. Firefighters were told that no one was in the house, so firefighters knocked down the fire in the kitchen area, but a search of the second floor found that the fire had progressed to the attic space, and at the same time firefighters did a primary of the entire structure just to make sure that there was no one home.  Firefighters had the fire out in under 30 minutes. The kitchen area was gutted by fire with the remaining house sustaining moderate heat and smoke damage. The fire is determined to have started in the kitchen area.  The cause has not been determined and is still being investigated, and the damage was estimated at $30,000. There were no injuries reported and firefighters were on the scene around 3 hours.
