According to WSMV.com website in Nashville, a woman who walked into a Nashville courtroom Wednesday to face shoplifting charges shouldn't have been there, or anywhere, according to official records. Sarah Moretti was accused of shoplifting at Dillard's in Rivergate, but as court workers looked into her record, they found out she was also arrested for shoplifting at the Macy's in Green Hills in 2011 and had never been prosecuted.

Moretti failed to be prosecuted for the 2011 charge, because she died. The death certificate read that on May 5, 2011, at her grandmother's house in Glasgow, KY, Moretti committed suicide. Four days later, according to the document, she was cremated.  Judge Casey Moreland, Metro General Sessions Judge, was surprised to see a 'dead' woman in court.

Judge Moreland asked "What date do we have in mind on the motion to resurrect?"  Neither Moreland, nor his staff were certain if they even had the power to resurrect a person who was previously declared dead on an official document.  Moretti began to cut herself with a pen clip in the courtroom while Court Clerks were working to make sense of the situation. Moretti was taken into custody, after a Court Officer noticed her bleeding, and then removed to a hospital for evaluation.  Next week Moretti is scheduled to be back in court to face the shoplifting charges, along with those related to her faking her own death.

WCLU News contacted Barren County Coroner Mike Swift, to see if Swift had any knowledge of this incident or any information in regard to the alleged suicide of Moretti in Glasgow in May of 2011.

Barren County Coroner Mike Swift told WCLU News, “We are looking into the situation to verify if in fact, the death certificate is a valid document for the decedant named.”

**UPDATE**  WCLU News spoke with Barren County Coroner Swift, who had contacted all local crematories, and none had any record of Sarah Moretti.  Swift had viewed the supposed death certificate of Moretti and shared this, "The certificate was an obvious forgery; it listed no social security number, no date of birth and no crematorium.  It was signed by 'Billy High' who has never worked with the Coroner's Office.  It was a complete forgery."  Swift plans to contact the Kentucky Office of Vital Statistics to report the forgery and Moretti may well be facing charges in Kentucky, when she is finished in Tennessee.
