Beginning today, in honor of Veteran’s Day and to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War, the book “Korea Reborn: A Grateful Nation Honors War Veterans for 60 Years of Growth” will be available to Korean War Veterans and family members as a free gift. This was made possible by the Korean Government and the Kentucky Department for Veteran’s Affairs.

Through historical narrative, stories, and stunning photography, this book describes the struggle for a foreign land’s freedom and, ultimately, the fruits of that struggle—a democratic ally and world power. This book caps a three year Korean War commemorative period, with the highlight being the congressional decree declaring 2013 the “Year of the Korean War Veteran”.

Korean War Veterans or their family members, can pick up their free books by contacting:

Friday was a big night for the Glasgow Fire Department. During their Promotion and Graduation Ceremony, one third of the department was promoted and two new recruits graduated and became firefighters. Chief Tony Atwood invited the family members of each firefighter to be a part of the ceremony and allowed the promotional pin to be put on by them.

Congratulations on the following promotions presented on Friday; Brian Marr-Assistant Fire Chief, Brian Shirley-Battalion Chief, Kevin Jant-Captain, Cary Proffitt-Lieutenant, Jason Thomas-Sergeant, Lucas Tinsley-Sergeant, Jason Thomas-Sergeant, Corey Buford-Inspector and Chris Blythe-Inspector.

Recruits Katan Parker and Justin Wells graduated Friday afternoon and seemed happy to turn in their hats labeled ‘rookie. Glasgow Fire Chief Tony Atwood praised his department for the outstanding job they have done in training these two and shared this:
