SHERIFF EATON WILL RESIGN JULY 31; SENTENCING STILL SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 1 PDF Print
Tuesday, 23 July 2013 12:31

Barren County Sheriff, Chris Eaton, will resign from office effective July 31, 2013 .  This news according to a sentencing memorandum filed in federal court this week.  The memorandum states that Eaton withheld his resignation in order to wait for a decision on whether or not he would be granted acquittal or a new trial.  However, following that statement the memorandum  reads, “the motion being denied, Chris felt it was inappropriate to remain as Sheriff of Barren County.  Out of respect for the rule of law and the citizens of Barren County, he has resigned.”

Eaton could not be reached via phone at the time of this story.

The memorandum, however, concludes with the following:

“Wherefore, the defendant, Christopher Brian Eaton, respectfully requests that the Court impose a sentence significantly below any determined guideline range.”

Prosecutors argue in their sentencing memorandum that Eaton should be sentenced to between 87 and 108 months in jail.

Eaton's sentencing on August 1st has been rescheduled to 10:30am in  Bowling Green.
