Opal Mae Branstetter Howard, 101 of Lexington, KY formerly of Monroe County passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Lexington.


She was born March 18, 1912 in Monroe County, KY to the late Willie Greene Branstetter and Bertha Payne Branstetter. She was a homemaker, a member of Rockbridge Missionary Baptist Church, a member of Monroe County Homemakers and Kentucky Homemaker of the year in 1971.  She was united in marriage on June 1, 1935 to Hugh Howard who preceded her in death.


She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Keith and Paula Howard of Cookeville, TN, two daughters and one son-in-law: Myra Bushong of Lexington, KY, Bess and Roy Abney of Richmond, KY, one sister: Christine Pierce of Louisville, KY and 6 grandchildren and 5great grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons: Kenny Lee and Jack Benny Howard, five brothers: Raymond, Paul, Wallace, Hartzell and Edward Bransteter and two sisters: Elesie Hodges and Nelda Norris.


Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 3 at 2:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in the Skaggs Creek Cemetery.


Visitation will be after 11:00 AM on Wednesday until service time at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.


Memorials are suggested to the Skaggs Creek Cemetery.
