May 3, 1973 – Jim Earl Lindsey is named principal at Temple Hill. Randy Swann is the new BCHS basketball coach.

Glasgow Scottie Chatter by Lynell Chamberlain – The Scottie Games were held at the GHS track on Friday and Saturday. 16 teams participated. The winner was Adair Co. with Glasgow coming in second. GHS Varsity Cheerleaders have been elected: Cindy Barrick, Lee Ann Branstetter, Suzie Damn, Donna Harrison, Elaine James, Sheila Landers, Diane Whitlow and Brenda Oaks is the alternate.

Route 5 Newsletter – Mr. and Mrs. Basal Rigsby were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Otha Rigsby awhile Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Polson called on Mr. and Mrs. Chester Matthews awhile Saturday night. They will be moving soon to Green Valley.

Phillip B Poynter has been promoted to Foreman of the Final Assembly Department at Eaton.

May 10, 1973 – Lewis Bauer is the first triple winner named to the Citizens Bank & Trust Hall of Fame.

Kiwanis name Women of Achievement: Mrs. Pearl Morrison, Miss Bess Howard, Mrs. Wilsonyia Watts, Mrs. Dorothy Wilson and Mrs. Faye Starr.

Summer Shade News by Mrs. Maude Bowles – Mrs. Maude Bowles and Mrs. Matry Gentry were at McMurtrey Funeral Home at Summer Shade to show respect to Mrs. Audie Denham who was there. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Delk of Glasgow visited Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Bowles and Mrs. Carolyn Cook and daughter, Elgenia Sunday awhile.

Honor Students at Ft. Run Elementary are Marla Downing, Rachel Crowe, Ellen Hunt, Michael Carlisle and Gary Veach.

Six persons were injured when their car, a 1972 Cadillac was struck by a train at the railroad crossing on 31E By pass Saturday morning. Injured were Mrs. Betsy Wells, Dr. and Mrs., Wendell Covell, Dr. and Mrs. Joe Campbell, and Robert Allen Edwards.


May 17, 1973 – Mrs. Fred Bussell, Treasurer of Barren County Homemakers Association presented a check to Tom Carroll, Chairman of the Barren County Red Cross Chapter.

Recent Births – Traci Lynn Smith, Julie Ann Steenbergen, James Michael Hale. The engagement of Alma Jean Franklin and William Richard Glover was announced. They will wed June2.

The Glasgow Scottie Girls’ Golf team won their regional tournament Monday. Coach is Bill Jones. Members are Gina Sandefur, Marla Compton, Kathy May and Debbie Ruggles.

Miss Betty Ann Taylor of Knob Lick will be one of 218 Freed-Hardman College students who will be graduating from the private liberal arts college this month in Henderson, Tn. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lesley Taylor.

Temple Hill News by Debbie Harvey – Mr. Danny Belcher graduated from WKU on May 12. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Belcher. Lesley Harvey visited Mr. and Mrs. Arvel Riddle and son, Mike on Sunday.

Dr. Sherman A Ballou of Cave City has announced the association of Dr. Steven M Welborn in his practice of dentistry.


May 24, 1973 – Ft. Run’s 5th and 6th grade basketball teams and cheerleaders have had a good year. The team won sportsmanship trophy in the county and Keith Shaw was named to the all Tournament team.

Amelia Rigdon and Johnny Polson  celebrated their 3rd birthday with a family party at Jerry’s Restaurant. Amelia was 3 on May 14 and Johnny on May 15th.

Metcalfe County Beta Club had their banquet. The Theme “In an old Dutch Garden”. Jim Newberry, the State Beta President from Hiseville was the guest speaker.

Etoile News – Mr. Eddie Gramlin visited Mr. and Mrs. Dick Combs Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Junior Spillman visited her aunt, Mrs. Fannie Everett Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gentry helped celebrate Mr. Rex Combs’ birthday Sunday. It was a surprise dinner. All his brothers and sisters were there.

Taylor Tales by Stanton Taylor – Mr. Taylor discusses bushel gourds, the song “Johnson’s Old Gray mare” a letter from Paul D Bushong and announces the birth of Jonathan Taylor Vibbert born on May 24th.
