KENTUCKY DERBY

Field reduced to 19...Longshot takes Oaks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Black Onyx has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby because of a chip in his left ankle. The long-shot showed some swelling in the ankle after training this morning and an x-ray revealed the problem. Trainer Kelly Breen says the timing of the injury couldn't have been worse. The scratch means that 19 horses will come charging out of the starting gate for today's race.

Post time is 6:24 p.m. (Eastern Time).

Princess of Sylmar was a stunning winner of the $1 million Kentucky Oaks, the derby weekend race for 3-year old fillies. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith coaxed a winning stretch drive out of her to outrun Beholder to the wire. Princess of Sylmar was a 38-1 longshot and paid $79.60 for a two-dollar win bet.
