At 8:56, am, Saturday, April 27, 2013, Glasgow Police were dispatched to Highland Pharmacy on Rogers Road, in reference to an armed suspect in the process of robbing the business.

Prior to the arrival of Officers, David Wiley, personnel of the Pharmacy, was able to disarm and detain the suspect and upon arrival, Officer Kirkpatrick placed the suspect, identified as 33 year old Ira McDaniel of Hardyville, Ky. under arrest.

Further investigation into the case led to the finding of McDaniel’s vehicle at a business adjacent to Highland Pharmacy which was found to contain material relevant to the investigation. That vehicle has been impounded by Glasgow Police.

McDaniel was transported to T J Samson Community Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was then transported to and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center.

David Wiley received minor injuries during his scuffle to detain McDaniel, however, was not transported by Medical Services to seek treatment.

Charges against Ira McDaniel in the case are as follows:

Robbery 1st Degree

Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree

Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree

Assault 2nd Degree

This investigation continues under the supervision of Detective Sgt. Jennifer Arbogast.

Glasgow Police Chief Guy Turcotte makes this statement in regard to our Officers’ response to this situation:


“Our Officers responded to this call not knowing what they would encounter upon arrival. I’m very proud of their prompt action to secure the scene and keep others out of harm’s way. Their diligence at the scene has led to the above stated charges against Ira McDaniel and given opportunity to our Detectives to pursue those charges and keep another alleged criminal off the streets of our city”.
