The Bowling Green - Warren County Drug Task Force, with assistance from Bowling Green Police have arrested:

28-year-old Martez Devon Mitchell, of 1810 Walden Road, Bowling Green, KY

Charged with:

1. Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, First Degree, over 2 grams, Heroin, Class C Felony

2. Tampering with Physical Evidence, Class D Felony

3. Fleeing and evading on Foot, Class A Misdemeanor

4. Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree, (Hydrocodone), Class A Misdemeanor

The arrest occurred at 9:30 PM on April 16, 2013 following a 6 week investigation and surveillance by DTF Detectives of heroin trafficking activities in Bowling Green.

A controlled buy of heroin was set up by DTF Detectives from the accused last night. Following the purchase of the heroin from the accused in the 2400 block of Thoroughbred Drive, he was confronted by DTF and BGPD patrol officers. Once confronted he fled on foot for about a block and was taken in to custody on Paddock Way in Bowling Green with minimal resistance following the foot chase.

Seized at the time of arrest were 2 hydrocodone tablets and $2,115 in cash.

This is the first arrest by DTF Detectives for trafficking in Heroin in Bowling Green. DTF Detectives have made two prior purchases of heroin over the last 6 weeks in other ongoing investigations. Given the near epidemic rise in heroin in Louisville, Lexington and Northern Kentucky we fear this is the beginning of a tread in this area.  DTF resources will continue to focus on this problem.

The accused was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail pending arraignment in Warren District Court.
