Gertie Esther Hawkins, age 96, of Cub Run, passed Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave. She was a member of the Cherry Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Buster and the late Mary Blair Buster and the wife of the late William Clarence Hawkins.

She is survived by five daughters: Elizabeth Bishop of Elizabethtown, Frances Glass, Cozetta Buster, Kathy McFarland and her husband Barry all of Munfordville and  Kay Gore of Caneyville;  one son: Samuel Hawkins and his wife Veronica of Upton;  one sister: Jessie Sheldon of Salem, Oregon; 44 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Clarence Hawkins;  six children: Charlene Taylor, Aloma McDowell, J.W. Hawkins, Lucy Meredith, Damon Hawkins, Rowvena Grass; three brothers and 4 sisters.


Funeral services for Gertie Esther Hawkins will be held at 1:30pm Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Cherry Springs Baptist Church with burial in the Cherry Springs Cemetery at Cub Run.   Visitation from 2 to 8pm Friday and from 9am to 8pm Saturday at the Brooks Funeral Home and from 10am to 1pm Sunday at the church.
