January 4, 1973 – Woodford L Gardner, Jr., has recently become a partner in the Glasgow Law Firm of Redford and Redford and will now be known as Redford, Redford and Gardner.

David Depp is named Assistant Manager of A F Crow & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Atnip of Cooktown celebrated 42 years of marriage on December 28, 1972.

Lucy’s Letter – Winners in drawings held Saturday, Dec. 23 at D & H Grocer were Mrs. Flora Overstreet, Mrs. Carl Goad, and Mrs. Delmar Wheat. At Bailey’s Grocery were Jack Jordan, Gladys Lyle, and Judy Russell.

Cave City News – Mrs. Katie Turner and Miss Sallie Neville entertained the Turner family (children and grandchildren of the late Hugh & Byrd Turner) with a potluck dinner at their home on Rt. 1 Cave City.

Peggy Sue Pedigo is the first baby to arrive at T J Samson in 1973. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Pedigo, Route 4, Scottsville.

 

January 11, 1973 –

Dr. Franklin Neff will join the staff of Howard Clinic on January 15th.

Mrs. Winston Nunn entertained her luncheon bridge club Friday at home in Highland Park. Prize winners at the two table party were Mrs. Mickey McShane, and Mrs. Kenneth Jackson.

Summer Shade News – by Mrs. Maude Bowles – Mr. and Mrs. Benton High of Orlando, Fl, spent a few days with their son, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie High and two children of Little Rock, Arkansas and then came on to Ky. to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loy High. Freddie High is with the Air Force.

Etoile Newsletter – Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Drewey Jones took supper with Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Bertram last Tuesday night.

 

January 18, 1973 –

Miller Dickinson dribbles around one of the obstacles in the Tri Star Basketball contest held Saturday at Scottie gym. The contest was sponsored by Glasgow Optimist Club and Jerry’s Restaurant.

The J R Leftwich family left their home in Tuscon, Az. On Jan. 7 expecting to arrive in Glasgow Monday night, Jan. 8 for their daughter, Elaine to resume studies at Western. They were marooned by a heavy snow in Sweetwater, Texas and were able to be house in the First Baptist Church there.

Temple Hill News – by Debbie Harvey – Jeannette Wood will celebrate her birthday on Tuesday, January 23rd. Little Miss Rhonda Harris was named Little Miss New Year sponsored by the B & PW club. She is the 5 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Harris.

January 25, 1973 –

Ernest Simpson Construction Co. was awarded the bid on the new Barren County Vocational School at a special meeting of the Barren County Board of Education.

Mr. and Mrs. Edd Witcher celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Jan. 21 at their home. The surprise dinner was given by their five children. 14 grandchildren, Mrs. Witcher’s father, Will Tarry and other relatives attending totaling 45.

North Tompkinsville News – Mr. and Mrs. Bobbie Strode of Boston, Ky. have been here visiting his brothers, Evans, Elsworth and J R Strode this past week. Misses Teresa Witty and Sandra Conkin of Tompkinsville made the Deans List at Lindsey Wilson for the 1972-73 term.

Charles Poynter and Timmy Rigdon won the runner up honors in the Tri Star basketball contest representing the Glasgow Optimist Club.

 

January 25, 1973 -

Coach Sonny Oliphant congratulates Frankie Barlow after retiring his number as one of Park City’s great basketball players.

Caverna Colonels Chatter by Jill Burd – Tuesday, the Colonelettes performed during halftime assisted by Gary Nall on the drums.
