Following a lengthy process in search of a new assistant director for WKU-Glasgow, a decision has been made. Bill Walter, who has been serving as the interim assistant director since September, is now the assistant director, according to Dr. Sally Ray, Director of the WKU-Glasgow campus.

“We were fortunate to have so many highly qualified applicants for the position,” Dr. Ray said.  “I want to commend the members of the screening committee for the outstanding way in which they went about the business of narrowing the this large number down to a small group of finalists. They were very focused and thorough.”

In the end, Dr. Ray said it was Walter’s experience that set him apart from the others she interviewed.

“This is an extremely important position as the title suggests, so I needed someone who was a proven leader. Bill Walter was an extremely successful administrator in both Hart and Barren counties,” Dr. Ray said. “And when you couple that with his passion to serve, his support of students and colleagues and his love for Western Kentucky University, he was the right choice. Bill will be a compliment to an already strong faculty and staff here at WKU-Glasgow, and I’m thrilled to have him join us.”

Walter began his career as an elementary teacher in Hart County before serving as a principal both in Hart and Barren counties. He’s been a central office director, assistant superintendent and retired in August of this year as the associate superintendent of Barren County Schools.

Walter said he was excited to become a part of WKU-Glasgow.

“I’m humbled by my selection and so appreciative to Dr. Ray for this opportunity,” Walter said. “Clearly, WKU-Glasgow has a great reputation, a very accomplished and distinguished faculty and a strong group of staff members who are led by a passionate and visionary leader in Dr. Ray. So I look forward to being part of such a dynamic team on an absolutely fabulous campus.”

Walter received an Associate’s Degree while in the USAF, and his Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, Rank I and Superintendent’s Certification all from WKU.

Walter lives in Glasgow with his wife, June.  He officially begins his duties Dec. 1.
