Preliminary Autopsy results indicate that Marion County Deputy Sheriff Carl Anthony Rakes died from injuries sustained from two gunshot wounds located in the abdomen and upper torso area. A final autopsy report will be released at a later date.

The incident occurred when Rakes initiated a traffic stop on a 2007 KIA early Wednesday morning. Deputy Rakes was shot during the stop and died at Springview Hospital while in surgery.

49-year-old Dewayne Shipp has been charged with Murder of a Police Officer in the death of the 31-year-old Deputy Sheriff.
