Local citizens have reported to Police that a pop-up screen, appearing to be from the FBI appeared on their computers, stating they had been locked due to illegal computer activity.

There is no way to close the pop-up window and unlock the computer without entering a code on the screen that purchases a MoneyPak for about $200.

Research on this scam by GPD Officer Cowan has led to the finding that it is a virus known as Reveton Ransomware.

Anyone who experiences this on their computer should go to the Internet Crime Complaint Center and complete a Complaint Referral Form.

The website is: www.ic3.gov.
