September 1, 1982 – BCHS Homecoming Queen Candidates – Amy Scott, Ellen Isenberg, Kelly Jones, Karen Thomas, Melanie Strode, Bobbie Edwards, Bridgette Kehrt, Jackie Houchens, Terri Crabtree, Kelly Coop, Lynn Simpson and Robin Gooden.

Celebrate the Capital Arts Centers First Birthday with Helen Reddy September 11, 1982. Ticket Prices $20 and $25.

 

September 2, 1982 – Dusty Bartlett celebrated her 6th birthday with a swimming party at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bartlett.

 

September 5, 1982 – GHS bops E-town 37-0. Big night for Tony Wooten, catches four passes, and scores three touchdowns. Barren rallies past Leslie Co. 17-7. Bruce Groce, BCHS sophomore, rushed for 179 yards and the deciding TD.

 

September 7, 1982 – Two youngsters, age 10 and 11, are charged with vandalizing the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church on Kentucky Street. Pastor is Rev. Ricky Proffitt.

 

September 8, 1982 – Junior biology students in Jim Nelson’s Class at GHS got a good look inside and out at a five foot rattlesnake. The snake was killed on a Georgia road and Nelson froze it to preserve it and then shared with his class.

 

September 9, 1982 – 15 teenagers’ eyes are fixed on glowing screens. They’re punching buttons intently watching to see if the figures behave as they should. No, not a local video game parlor, but Introductory Computer class at GHS. Teacher was Suzanne Britt.

 

September 10, 1982 - Bolton’s Landing opens with Betty Haines helping her husband, Mark, one of the owners with her new recipes.

September 10, 1982 – 16 year old Cynthia Martin is crowned Miss Cave City during Cave City’s Good Ole Days. 1st Runner up was Cynthia Bryant and 2nd was Kim Passmore.

 

September 12, 1982 – 9th annual Antique Machinery Show opened Saturday at the American Legion Park.

 

September 14, 1982 – SCRTC became more computerized Saturday when a full digital network began serving local phone subscribers.

 

September 15, 1982 – 16 are arrested on drug charges in an undercover probe by the Kentucky State Police, Glasgow Police Depart., BC Sheriff’s Office and Cave City Police. This is described as possibly the largest drug bust in Barren Co.

Jimmy Mortimer, 22, of Glasgow, is a member of the 1982-83 UK Cheerleading Squad.

 

September 17, 1982 – Barren County Junior Miss Contestants are Jody Calhoun, Lisa Gumm, Kesa Allen, Vonda Simpson, Leslie Tate, Kim Irving, Molly Barbour, and Robin Bailey.

September 19, 1982 – Secretary of Labor Raymond Donovan, was one of several officials on hand for the groundbreaking ceremonies at the site of the Great Onyx Job Corps Center.

 

September 20, 1982 – Lisa Jo Gumm was selected as Barren County Junior Miss. Robin Bailey was 1st runner up and Kim Irving was 2nd runner up.

 

September 21, 1982 – George O Wells was sworn in as a Kentucky State Trooper and assigned to State Police Post at Harlan.

September 23, 1982 – Recent Births – Emily Renae Haynes, Megan Brooke McGregor, Ashleigh Autumn Smith, Philip Campbell Thornton, Daniel Lee Turner, Eric Scott Britt, Spencer Michael Stephens, Virginia Cassandra Piper, Brandi Gayle Hester, Megan Katherine Foster, Kathryn Lynn Younger and Twins Stacey Lee and Casey Ann Button.

 

September 24, 1982 – Winners in the Safe Essay Contest sponsored by Barren County Farm Bureau are 1st, Stacey Houchens, 2nd Michael Gardner and 3rd, Lisa Siddens.

 

September 26, 1982 – A team of golfers from Citizens Bank and Trust Co. is heading for the state level  in the National Walter Hagan Golf Tournament – Susan Jackson, Sue Travis, Barbara Shipley, Jane Meek and Cleva Goad.

 

September 27, 1982 – Anthony Frazier and Kristie Samson were two of the local children in competition of the Little Mr. and Miss Ky. State County Fair.

 

September 28, 1982 – Two Glasgow Ins. Agencies will merge effective November 1. – Wells-Grinstead and Pedigo-Lessenberry.

 

September 29, 1982 – GHS Homecoming Queen Candidates – Dawna Wilson, Kim Irving, Heidi Kjellmark, Hope Bowles, Julie Proffitt, Holly Szekendi, Leah Martin, Laura Turner, Kim Hatchett, Cathy Bray, Leigh Ann Garmon and Teresa Allen.

September 29, 1982 – Metcalfe County native, Rachel (Chele) Lollar Cross is in training for the upcoming Miss Kentucky Body Building Contest.

 

September 30, 1982 – Two well known Glasgow men have joined the board of directors of the New Farmers National Bank, effective September 29th – L Rogers Wells, Sr. and Bobby H Richardson.
