April 1, 1982 – In Baseball news, BC Trojans and Colonels tie 3-3. Players for Caverna were Charlie Cross, Jeff Percell, Joe Stumph, Jeff Edwards, and Bobby Adwell. BC Players were Kelvin Bartley, Rico Rosado, Donald “Goose” Gossett, Bart Hodges, and Mike Johnson.

April 2, 1982 – GHS Band Fruit sale winners were Julie Collier, $500 in sales, Todd Hume with $419 in sales and Jerry Doyel, with $1.262 in sales.

April 4, 1982 – Eastern Elem. Is damaged by high winds with gusts up to 50 miles an hour on Saturday resulting in the greatest damage being to the roof over the cafeteria.

April 5, 1982 – Jr. Foods on Burkesville Road is robbed by four armed men who were arrested immediately following the robbery.

April 7, 1982 – Kim Glass, Eastern Elem. 6th grade student was the school winner in the Courier Journal Spelling Contest and will compete in the County Contest. Laura Lindsey was the Temple Hill Elem. Winner.

April 8, 1982 – AD – 9 hour sale at Bartley’s Furniture and Appliance in Tompkinsville. April 10th. Saturday only GE 30” Range $349.00…GE Washer and Dryer $599.90.

April 9, 1982 – Temple Hill residents learn how to start a fire department. Members of the newly organized group are Kenny Alexander, Mack Emberton, Neil Pendygraft, Sammy Perkins, Wendell Underwood, Wallace Peden, Thomas Jones, Jerry Harvey and Bud Tarry.

April 12, 1982 – Joe Reeves, 6th grade student at Bunche placed 1st in the Pass, Shoot and Dribble competition in Bowling Green and then went on to place 2nd in the state competition.

April 14, 1982 – Richard Wilson, BCHS Trojan sets a new school record for high jump. He went over the bar at 6 ft. 1 inch.

April 15, 1982 –“ Hickory Hill”, home of the Phillip Patton family is featured in an article by Frances Bastien. The Pattons bought the home from Karl and Nancy Weis, who purchased it from Charles Bow, who purchased it from the Leonard Johnsons.

April 15, 1982 – Susan Ranon, of Rt. 5, Glasgow wins the Honda car given away by Jr. Foods. She won from 250,000 entries.

April 16, 1982 – Bro. Garnett Martin is honored at Dover Baptist Church near Etoile for having served as pastor there for 25 years.

April 20, 1982 – The J C Penney store in Glasgow has begun a major remodeling project which will include a new front for the firm located on W. Main St. and N. Race St. J C Penney opened in Glasgow in 1928.

April 21, 1982 – Barren County Fiscal Court discusses the possibility of getting a computer for the County Clerk’s office.

Jean Hickman is the new Barren County Extension Agent for Home Economics.

April 22, 1982 – Steven Gray participates in “Adopt a Grandparent” during Volunteer Week. Jesse Clayton, Abundant Life Nursing Home, is his adoptive grandfather.

April 25, 1982 – More than 40 senior citizens from Glasgow took part in a five bus trip to Washington, DC.

April 26, 1982 – Scott Stephens and Scotty Alexander sell the first box of Little League candy to Mayor Luska J Twyman.

April 27, 1982 – Cable system is still a topic of discussion by the Glasgow City Council.

April 28, 1982 – Barren County Speedway opens for the season by a new corporation “Maverick Bros. Enterprises” The Corporation consists of Sonny Wimpee, Dennis Bull and Rickie Pollock.

April 29, 1982 – Mrs. Lenna Gray Wilson is featured in a Glasgow Daily Times article for being the first woman to represent Barren County in the Ky. House of Rep.
