August 1, 1991 – Area servicemen include Kevin D. Halvorson, Kevin A. Ashley, Eugene T. Smith, Larry D. Stamps, and William S. Huff.

August 4, 1991 – Ashley Kingrey, GHS Junior was selected as VCA All-star Cheerleader at a Universal Cheerleader Association Camp at WKU.

August 6, 1991 – June Strode is the newly elected president of Austin Tracey Lions Club.

August 8, 1991 – Immanuel Baptist Church conducted ground breaking ceremonies Sunday, August 4 on their property in Western Hills Subdivision.

August 12, 1991 – Greg Lyons, former GHS Scottie Band Director is honored after leaving his position to take on management and ownership of Royal Music Company in Bowling Green.


August 15, 1991 – Barren County’s 1991-92 America’s Young Woman (Junior Miss) contest is scheduled and will choose the winner from 12 ladies from Barren County – Allison Gardner, Karla Twyman, Lee Ann Williams, Gini Lin Barlow, Charity Gosser, Julie Nichols, Amy Reece, Angie Durham, Christy Carver, Ericka Mutter, Angela Landrum and Nancy Jo Cornwell. (Allison Gardner was the winner).

August 16, 1991 – Hail Storm hits the county this week damaging a six acre field of tobacco owned by Ralph Dunbar.

August 18, 1991 – A large crowd turned out Saturday, August 15, to welcome home members of the Kentucky National Guard 623rd Field Artillery Unit after Operation Desert Storm.

Bluegrass Cellular, Glasgow, awarded Glenn Reeves with 100 free minutes, a shirt, a coffee mug and a pencil for being the company’s 1000th customers.

August 19, 1991 – Groundbreaking is held for the construction of the new science classroom addition and future auditorium at Barren County High School.

August 20, 1991 – Dirt is being moved on the 31 E By Pass for construction of a new shopping center on property known as Oak Street. The new shopping center is scheduled to open in March of 1992 with a new Kmart store.

August 23, 1991 – Summer Tennis League Winners were Jim Thompson, Steve Wininger, Tim Leaf, Josh Underwood, Jeff Carter, Norma Johns, Gayle Wilkerson, Linda Fox and Vivian Strange.

August 25, 1991 – Temple Hill Class of 1971 held their 20th class reunion at Beaver Creek Inn.

August 26, 1991 – A fire late Sunday afternoon in Horse Cave destroyed a tobacco warehouse and a re-dryer building just off 31 W.

August 27, 1991 – 51st Annual Etoile Fair is held with Tamera Greer being the winner of the frog jumping contest after a jump off with Josh Hiser.

August 28, 1991 – AD – The Citizens of the Hiseville -  Park community request the honor of your presence at “The Honorable Louie B Nunn Day” on Sunday, September 1, 1991 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Hiseville High School, Hiseville, Ky.

August 29, 1991 – A $19,375 grant for the Land and Water Conservation Fund has been awarded to the city of Cave City for the renovation and development of ball fields in Brian Doyle Park.
