July 1, 1981 – Mrs. Cecile May Huddleston was given a surprise birthday party celebrating her 79th birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marvis (Jane) Barrick.

July 2, 1981 – Cameras were allowed in courtrooms in Barren County for the first time today after State Supreme Court ruling.

July 5, 1981 – Local supply is good and gas prices fall slightly. Full service – Regular - $1.33 - $1.44 and self service – Regular - $1.27 to $1.28.9.

July 8, 1981 – Radio Personality Doug Kirsch and last year’s Barren County’s Junior Miss Carolyn Redford will co-host this year’s Junior Miss Pageant.

July 12, 1981 – R R Donnelley offers aerobic exercise classes to their employees. Wanda Newby, Annette Johnson and Paulette Rigsby are the instructors.

Holiday Gulf, Hwy. 68 and the By pass, next to Holiday Inn, is now under the management of Jimmy Smith.

July 13, 1981 – Judy Smith is 1982 Barren County Junior Miss. First runner up was June Morgan, Second runner up was Lorri McDowell and “Spirit of Junior Miss” award went to Connie Whitley.

Big K Merges with WalMart and local Big K store will be remodeled soon.

Mehl Ampon wins the singles at Weldon Tournament (for 2nd straight year).

July 14, 1981 – Grand opening is held at the Park City Feed Mill in Park City. This is one of the two newest Southern States’ seven full manufacturing plants.

July 16, 1981 – Two Glasgow girls are attending the National Gymnastic Institute summer camp in Richmond – LaTonya Marshall and Tammy Poland.

Merry Oaks High School class of 1926-27 held their class reunion at Weldon Park. Members included Cleatra Bridges, John D. Welch, Raymond Bridges, Austeel Stull, Virgil Bishop, Paul Allen, Nell Barrick, Virginia Gallaway and Carlos Burkhead, teacher.

July 19, 1981 – Tidy Tim’s Cleaning Service opens for business. Tim Emmett is the owner operator.

July 20, 1981 – Local girls attending WKU Lady Toppers Basketball camp include Robin Thomas, Lynn Smith, Becky Smith, Rebel Sharp, Melanie Whitlow, Cindy Riddle, Michele Bunch, Kim Phillips, Felicia Norris, and Myra Brandon.

July 22, 1981 – 20 year old Tammy McCubbins was crowned 1981 Miss Farmers RECC.

The tentative opening date for Barren River State Park beach is July 31, according to Park Manager, Doug Price.

Montgomery Ward catalog store opens in the Glasgow Square Shopping Center. Chris Miller is the manager.

Tiffany Carol Smith is crowned Junior Miss Summer Shade Fair, and Andi Manning is crowned Miss Summer Shade Fair.

July 24, 1981 – Kim Palmore is crowned Miss Temple Hill, first runner up was Annette Jones and Andi Manning was second runner up.

July 26, 1981 – Jerry & Linda Driver, Kentucky natives are the new owner operators of the Cave City Variety Store, 157 Broadway in Cave City.

July 27, 1981 – Barren County’s Property Valuation Administrator W R “Red” Adwell, dies at age 52.

July 30, 1981 – Olene Hume is appointed interim PVA for Barren County.

July 31, 1981 – Friday night on TV – CBS – Incredible Hulk, Dukes of Hazard, Dallas, ABC – Benson, Krypton Factor, Movie “The Possession of Joel Delaney” and NBC – Happy Valley PTA and Movie “The Slipper & the Rose”.
