December 5, 1980 – The combined Choirs of the First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church are practicing for this Sunday’s presentation of the Messiah. The choir will be directed by Mike Dunn and accompanied by the Nashville Symphony.

December 7, 1980 – AD – Sport About Town, offering a wide range of sporting needs, opens at 100 E. Wayne Street. Bob and Sandra Montgomery, owners and operators.

December 7, 1980 – The Ladies Matinee Musicale will host a Christmas tour. The homes of Dr. and Mrs. Jim Whiteside, Dr. and Mrs. Garland Gars and Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Wilson, Jr. will be featured.

December 9, 1980 – Bob McDaniel, the outgoing president of the Cave City Chamber of Commerce was recognized as the Cave City Citizen of the Year at the annual Chamber banquet.

December 10, 1980 – Bob Bates, the 27 year old assistant manager of Lake Barkley State Park, has been hired as the new executive director of the Cave City Convention Center.

December 11, 1980 – Christmas music by Sherri Roscoe, Ellen Richardson and Sara Smilax was presented to the Glasgow B & PW Club’s regular meeting.

December 13, 1980 – Mr. Joe’s opens on Columbia Ave with Joe Thompson, Grover Wyatt, Betty Thompson and Tress Meredith as the staff.

December 14, 1980 – A local dealer, Anodyne Anderson from Somerset, brought her dolls to a booth at the flea market off US 31 E South on Gory Road.

December 15, 1980 – David Gray, a student at Barren County High School was elected State Beta Club President.

December 16, 1980 – When Pastor Bill Perry of the Samson St. Church  told his congregation that if they’d get 100 people to church on a given day, he would preach from the rooftop. They did and He did.
December 17, 1980 – Fred and Audrey Perdue are named the1980 Outstanding Citizens by the Park City Lions Club.

December 19, 1980 – Glasgow Baptist Church will present “Noel, Jesus is Born” with cast members Mike Hyde, John Erwin, Walter Jones, Bill Humphrey, Ernie Myers, David Dickerson, Larry Pike, Mike Asbury and Keith Trial.

December 21, 1980 – The Glasgow Rotary Club enjoyed a musical program with local talent from many of the local Rotarians including FOLLIS Crow, Jim Manning, Carroll Redford, Jr., Charles Honeycutt, Tommy Lyons, Joe Leech, Roy White, Henry Dickinson, Robert A. Lessenberry, William Gravely and Dr. Harold Cady.

December 22, 1980 – Winners of the Soil Conservation Essay contest at Liberty Street were Mary Norris, 1st, Sam Day Dickinson, 2nd, and Amy Norris, 3rd.

December 23, 1980 – Honored for 20 years of service at South Central Rural Telephone Cooperative was Madeline Asbury. Jim Albany was recognized with 25 years of service.

December 27, 1980 – Saturday on TV – WKRP in Cincinnati and Tim Conway. Sunday on TV – CHIPS, Archie’s Place, One Day at a Time, Alice, Jeffersons, and Trapper John, MD.

December 30, 1980 – Brownie Troop 774 of E. B. Terry School visited and toured Long John Silvers with Manager Wilbur Harrison leading the tour. They also visited New Farmers Bank of Hiseville and their adopted grandmother, Mrs. J. W. Porter.

December 31, 1980 – Increase in gasoline prices starts on the last day of 1980. Gas at Phillips 66 on N. Race Street was $1.17 and increased by 1 cent.
